Non OEM E92 335d Brake Pads -Invalidate Warranty?

Happy New Year Everyone,

I was speaking to Rybrook BMW today trying to book my car into service.
Got three items that need addressing:
Service / Engine Oil / Rear Brake Pads (Luckily still have service contract)

Unfortunately Brakes are not covered under the service contract.
So I mentioned to the service advisor whether I could fit a higher quality type of brake pads to the car without it invalidating the warranty.

They stated that this could be hazardous and potentially cause damage to the car lol!

I obviously know that if you buy brake pads from a renown manufacturer there shouldn't be a problem with them damaging the car but the warranty issue still remains.

Will they likely use this as an excuse to say no to any claims if I had a problem with the brakes?

Anyhow, does anyone have any brake pad recommendations for a '60 plate e92 335d?
Car generally driven on motorways but some spirited drives every so often.
Feel that the OEM Pads are a bit weak.
Performance brakes a bit pricey.

Look forward to hearing helpful replies!

The legal requirement is you fit genuine parts or parts of equal quality to keep manufacturers warranty.

Are genuine pads that much more, or just the bmw labour costs putting the price up?

Stick with OEM pads, but change the brake fluid to a higher spec.

Factory OEM pads are actually cheap shit Jurid or Textar ones, the kind you can get from eurocarparts.com for £40 a set of 4.

But, only the ones BMW fit have a 'BMW' logo on, so they obviously cost 4 times more.

Any pads shown as OE replacement are adequate and will be as good as OE ones.

How do Mintax pads rate, are they rubbish or as good or better than OEM?

Yep they are usually Jurid, Textar or Pagid brake pads. ECP or GSF Car Parts can supply those.

Have a little search mate.
335i and d have same brakes.

Many posts in the past on this topic.

Personally I will be giving EBC Yellowstuff a go in the summer when I change mine.

I don't see how BMW can specify what consumables you use on your car.

That's like them saying you must only use Shell diesel and BMW screenwash and wiperblades.

If the pads conform or exceed a certain specification then I can't see how they can get arsey about it and I'd tell them to poke it.

I have jurid on my 335d which were obtained from one of the motor factors.

To be honest I have found them very good and not experienced any fade on the road. Performance is not far off my previous car which had AP's.

Never taken the 335d on track though

just been reading e92fans info on Pagid 4-2-1 and upgraded brake fluid and lines.
Sounds like the perfect choice.

Thanks for all your suggestions.

Those pagid pads were actually wrong, they don't fit the 335i/d. The only choices I have found here in the UK are EBC yellow/redstuff or Carbotechs

Yeah I have just done a bit of research idnan and it seems they never were for sale as you said. Wonder where E92Fan got his info from?

Have been recommended the Brembo sport pads as a similar product by a couple of people.
£200 all round, will probably go down that route.

This. I suppose, if you had a warranty claim on the brake system, they may try to wriggle out of it, but I can't see it happening.

Carbotech XP8 would be ideal for a road car. Fantastic material and I have used it and a big fan.
XP10 if you do a lot of track work, or high duty like 'ring or airfield days.

However its very expensive and the XP10 is inclined to squeel unless abused often,
so you might get heavier disk wear on a DD town car.

I have the EBC Yellow all round and its actually pretty good.
Like oem from cold, and more powerful as you build the heat.
Fade resistance is a little better than oem.
New fluid is a must, and some RBF600 would do nicely on your road car.

You really need to fit front and rear in similar materials at the same time.
Or you may find some inbalances as the coefficient of friction is significantly different.
Ultimately you 'could' worsen stopping distance, but I have never experienced it personally (and I measured with a performancebox)
