Changing seats.....?

Hello guys. Looking for a bit of help again....

I am considering getting fully electric seats for my 2008 330M Sport (E90). She came with only the electric bolster option and I really miss the fully electric set-up.

I currently have an option on a set of 2008 M3, fully electric and heated front seats (my current ones are also heated) and my question is: how big a job is it to swap them over - assuming that they can be swapped straight over?

I don't do any work on the car myself and this would be done at a local independent here in Aberdeen.

Thanks in advance.

Colin.

changing seats themselves is an easy job took me bout 40 mins to change mine the other day. however you may need additional wiring for the extra electrics

It will need coding too.

Guys, thank you for your input.

Is there anyone else who can shine any light on this prior to me taking the plunge and doing it?

Thanks in advance,

Colin.

On the 5 series (and I see no reason for the E9x to be any different) to do the wiring is quite a major job, particularly if you want an OEM look. Plus coding of course. Take advice at your local auto electrician's before taking the plunge.

Do a search on here for retro fitting heated seats...theres a few good threads about this. You will need additional wiring and heated seat controls.

Making the electric seats work will require additional wiring also.

Garage List
Just installing the wiring necessary to enable the heated seat I fitted to my car took 4 hours of work from someone who knew what they were about. Coding was an additional hour.

Parts added about £120 to the cost.

Given the complication of the seats you are buying being fully electric this is likely to be a BIG and EXPENSIVE job. I wouldn't bother.

Gents, thanks again for the continued input.

Just to clarify; my current seats are heated and manual with the electric bolster facility.

I am still undecided whether to go ahead with this due to the conflicting opinions here. I shall wait and hopefully get some more pointers prior to making the final decision.

Thanks again.

Colin.

Seeing as you already have heated seats with the electric bolsters then its just the electric memory function that your after.

See here the wiring on the left, this came from a E91 335d sport which had full electric and heat, not 100% clear but you should be able to see what wiring you will need. The wiring on the right is the retro fit heated wires, dont worry about them as your previous post.

Check your drivers side wiring and see if you are missing any of the wires. You may just need to fit the new seats and add a fused positive and negitive and maybe coding and your away.

You will need to find the seats your happy with, with the black control boxes that are fixed to the bottom.

I bought a set of fully electric leather M Sports seats but would of prefered the manual adjustment to save on the extra wiring and possible problems and would of done a swop with you but you are the wrong end of the country!

Hope this helps!

Hey i also swapped my whole interior, the job isnt that hard, the car is all held together by a few bolts and mostly clip on tabs. if you need any help i can try answering any questions.

However, my old seats were heated, and when i installed the new ones which also were heated, that function no longer worked. everything else did apart frm the heat. Its something im looking into now, let me know how yours goes.

Guys, thanks again for all this assistance.

I am 99% sure I am going to go ahead with this but time is about to catch me as I am away back to work on Monday for a month, so this project will probably not happen until I get back home again in late February.
