Paddles Installed
I finally got new steering wheel with paddles fitted yesterday.
I will be selling the original wheel (see photo below), so if anybody here is interested please let me know before I put it up for sale. Cheers. |

Do you have a E90? How and where do you get a steering wheel with paddles? I was trying to find them for my car before, but I cant. So, I bought a M Tech Steering Wheel for my car. They feels great and looks great. But I still want the one with paddle shift.

Looks good. Did you change it over yourself or did you leave it to the dealer to do ?? I'm assuming the car would have to be re-programmed to accept the padel shift.

I arrived at my dealer’s service centre today. I left the car and sat in the waiting room for 2 hours while I waited for the bulk of the work to be done. At this point I ventured down to the workshop where I met the techo doing the job. He turned out to be a BMW master technician and was quite a good guy. He said the job was not all that difficult – just a little fiddly. It involved adding the paddles to the new wheel and then installing it in place of the old one. The airbag and wheel facia is transferred across. (Note: You cannot fit paddles to a non-paddle steering wheel). He then had to remove the lower part of the dash, cupholders and glove box to run a wire to the ECU connector somewhere in the firewall. He did not need to open the bonnet. His final step was re-programming the ECU to reset the airbag and activate the paddles. This took about 20 minutes – roughly 2 hours and 20 minutes in total. The paddles feel great and work perfectly. The parts list: · M*32340393578 Screw US$6.00 · W*61316973934 Shift level US$201.23 · W*61316973933 Shift lever US$201.23 · W*61319123287 Switch US$161.43 · W*61130006663 Contact US$6.39 · W*32306777631 Steering Wheel US$561.55 Quote:

yeh it is always cheaper to tick the options box on your first visit to the dealer, rather then months later
but great to hear you are enjoying the new paddles! i think i like the mtech wheel though... more beefy and feels nice to hold

Thanks so much for the info. I am going to check on that from my dealer. I am working at the Bellevue BMW now as a detailer, so I believe I can get a pretty good deal on it. Employee price~ YEA~ Thank you!

You can buy these M-Technic wheels on ebay. A lot of guys in the US are buying them. They will convert a sport wheel fitted with paddles to this larger grip diameter full leather wheel.

Ouch, I was thinking the $200 paddle option was a joke, having said that I think the paddles should come standard and then be an option to remove. (though the paddles with the steptronic is 90% of the fun)

Depends on what wheel you have - if its the sport wheel you can just add paddles. If its not the sport wheel you have to purchase a new wheel too. See that parts list posted earlier in this thread.

I puchased a new M3 SMG steering wheel to replace my worn out one from that eBay seller posted above (qalbeli) and it arrived very quickly, with no hassles at all!
I fitted it myself, and took it to the dealer to clear the codes (because I stupidly turned the car on and drove it before refitting the airbag, which threw a code)... VERY quick and easy install if you have a breaker bar and a torque wrench so you can put the new wheel on to BMW torque settings. |

I was considering the M wheel too. However it was nearly double the price for a very similar wheel. Quote:

How about the M Tech Steering Wheel? I have no sport package on my 330i, but I purchased the M Tech Steering Wheel. Can I just add the paddle shifter on it? Thanks!
