Battery registration

I just replaced the battery in my 2007 E90. Apparently the computer needs to be reset and the battery "registered". Hate to have to go to the dealer for this.

Does anyone in the chicagoland area have the scan tool that would be willing to help me?

Or maybe I need to order a scan tool myself!

Thanks!

Jim

or order a coding cable online - for the same amount of money for paying a shop to program, you can do registration and a whole lot more yourself.

I just did mine yesterday, using a 24.99 cable from Ebay, and the DIS software, which is readily downloadable.

Takes only two minutes to register the new battery using DIS.

Hardest part is installing all the VMware etc. on your laptop to get the DIS working.

I swapped my battery a few months ago, no coding required. Just a PITA the way the battery has to be mounted in there. I'm glad I did this in the daytime with lots of light. Doing this at night in the cold would have been a bitch.

Agreed! It's a PITA with the weight, the cables connected and the ability to wiggle the battery in there without having it caught up on something. Definitely takes some strength to bring down/pull up the battery multiple times to squeeze between the cables.

this was just, simply, an informative thread before my car wouldn't start at the gas station last night and I found out my battery needed to be replaced- -due to a bad cell.

How often do you need to change your battery? Every 5 years? Or did your battery simply die?
