Clunking noise from rear **Video Inside**
I am getting a clunking noise from the rear especially when transferring loads. I can reproduce it by rocking the car back and fourth with quite a bit of force. Check out the video and let me know what you guys think.
Thanks a bunch! Car is a 2006 323i 6mt. Has around 75k miles on it. |

fail link! (FIXED LINK) lol
Sounds like rear end monuts, letting the rear end move up and down when load is on and off. Or drive alxes . best bet is get it in the air and get under the car while u move the wheel with your hand.. but i may be wrong ive never played with the rear end of my e90 Last edited by DJ Apex; 01-31-2012 at 06:35 PM.. |

Well it sounds like something is loose. Get it on a lift and start swinging that rubber mallet, not too hard of course! That noise will be easily recreated which should make it pretty easy to find the loose connection.

There is something up within the differential itself. The input bearing is shot, already figured that out, and I am sure that there is something else causing excess play in there. I have a new 3.64 diff sitting in my garage that will go in tomorrow. I will update with results.

my car made a similar noise whenever i shifted from R->D and D->R. The dealer said they lubed the rear diff joints and end plate and replaced some gasket. According to the Service Receipt, there seems to be a bulletin on it.
