OEM vs K&N filter

Hi all, ok so i been searching the forums and have seen mixed results on this topic. Is it really worth paying an extra $25 for a K&N filter over a OEM one?

My second question is, i heard about some K&N filter issues with oil, are these filters supposed to be oiled before installing or something? I have never had to oil any filters i had in previous cars.

Also for the people who have removed their intake silencer on a OEM intake, is it much louder after removal across the rpm range?

Thanks

K&N type filters come pre-oiled new. You only have to clean&re-oil them every 15-30k miles depending on your environment. If you're going to keep your car for a long time and don't mind cleaning/oiling, it'll be cheaper in the long run. I have a Macht Schnell filter; same thing; no performance difference between oe and oiled types..

I put in a K&N filter a few months ago. They come pre-oiled (wear gloves). I don't notice a difference in performance, horsepower, acceleration, or MPG. In fact, when the weather gets a bit warmer here in NY, I'm going to put my stock air filter back in after a good cleaning.

A lot of people have said because they're oiled they will mess up the Mass airflow sensor as well, which is several hundred dollars to replace and not worth the risk IMO.

Also, keep in mind, people have said replacing the stock air filter with a 3rd party one may void parts of your warranty, because the filter will allow air particulates into the engine that the stock filter would not otherwise have.

Just my 2 cents, take it for what it's worth.
