Electronic Water Pump/Thermostat

My water pump just failed at 50,109 Just 109 miles out of warranty adn BMW is having NO grace to help with ANY of it?! Now I have never been an advocate of my local BMW dealer, they control the Indy market and can pretty much do as they please, but 109 miles out of warranty on a $30K car, and I have owned about 6 BMWs and no a penny of assistance from BMW America?!

REALLY leaves a bad taste in my mouth! When it initially happened, I said to myself I will never buy another BMW, but I just love the cars so much. Coming from an E46 M to a 2008 335i, not many cars like them...If problems continue with this e90, I may be jumping ship from an avid BMW enthusiast to Audi, perhaps.

ANYWAYS, point of my thread, I am going to replace the water pump and thermo myself, repair at BMW was $1600 and just have a hard time paying that when they are arrogantly just brushed my situation off. SO- Who has best place to get these parts? I have found the pump for about $580 including new pin bolts etc... Anyone seen it any cheaper? Have a resources they can pass along?

Thanks in advance fella's

It's a shame that they won't cover it considering it's a known fact that the electric water pump in this car is very unreliable.

Exactly! I mean it is no secret they put plastic fins on this thing just waiting to fail, they need to step up to the plate and fix this issue! For christ-sake, we are talking about a BMW, not a Kia!

Disappointing.

Did you call bmwna? Try them, they might fix it, ask for a good will repair.

Your car is not CPO'd? I know CPO covers this.

They should offer to split the bill with you ($800) instead of just a flat NO answer.

Sure did. Talked to them direct, said since they do not know my background with my cars they are not willing to goodwill any part of it. Even the horrible dealership in my area said they'd most likely split parts/labor with me.

I got a "NO".

It has been a wild case! Nothing like I thought BMW's reputation.

Go have the ECU read for the trouble codes. I'd bet the pump started to fail before 50,109 miles. The ECU will have the mileage at which time the pump failed. If the pump started to slow speed and give an error code as such, you could then argue the pump actually failed before 50,109 miles.

What kind of answer is that? How are they suppose to know your background with cars?

Ok here is the answer: file a small claim lawsuit. In most states all
It costs is $10-20. Name the dealership and bmwna. Claim Breach of contract. You don't have a leg to stand on but they don't want there name being called out in court. Also file a bbb report against the dealer. Freak it, you have nothing to lose and they have future customers to lose.

The electric water pump failed on my 09 X5 and left me stranded with 55k on it. BMW OK'd goodwill for everything even the tow.

Thats crazy. I called and they offered to help me with it. I have over 60k and I am the second owner! Although all of the maintainence done is recorded on both the Carfax and at BMW of Richmond and Midlothian here in VA.
