All E90's built from 2005 to Sept 2008 will have the DVD Based Sat Nav as per your top link

The Sat Nav in the bottom is the new HDD system which was fitted in ALL BMW's from Week 36 2008 production, Week 36 I believe is September and that would also tie in with the E90 LCi.

What you will see is some "58" reg cars will still have the old nav system as it is a older stock car.

Hope this helps

There is something dodgy....in the photo where nav is show, look at the lower part where photo is modified and made obscure. Fishy.

March 07 build cars got updated idrive too. Easy to spot as they have the 8 shortcut buttons under the cd drive. I believe they took out the force feedback from the controller and made it a bit faster, as well as adding the aforementioned buttons.

Sep 08+ cars got the HDD based CIC nav with HD screen and multi button controller.

The I-Drive Controller Knob is still the old style - ie. One Menu Button at the back.
The newer I-Drive knob comes with two buttons at back and 5 buttons in front

Frobius, I so nearly typed out a reply in disagreement with your statement until I re-read it carefully

Frobius is correct that under the DVD/CD Drive there is the 8 button shortcut and some other enhancements.

Just to echo comments, Sept 08> Gives the multi button iDrive controller which is the most noticeable change when peeking through the window or looking at photo's

Heh, yeah my reply probably isn't as clear as it could be - valentines day and I've had a few sherbets!

Just found this wiki. Should help.
