Sat in new 3 series today
Was the modern spec in 335i guise. Horrible light brown / grey interior trim like imitation tree bark.......most odd.
I liked it bar the above but the pedals were offset!!!! Accelerator and brake were OK but clutch far too much to the right. Issue would appear to be lack of space. Audi traditionally screw this up but BMW, come on, get a grip! Front brakes appeared to be 2-pot design. |

I sat in exactly the same interior and model type.
After initially seeing pics of it, i thought it would make me want to upchuck, but sitting in it, I really liked it. Although I've always liked a bit of beige. I also liked the textured wood trim. I still wouldn't buy the Modern since the dash it too light and it reflects off the windscreen. Other stuff I liked: - The whole interior seems like a major increase in quality over the E90 - Interior light looks classy - Seats are better; I assume the 335i I was in has sports seats; they are a lot better than E90 seats - Wing mirrors look good Stuff I didn't like: - Nothing really; except it doesn't look different enough from the outside to make up cough up the cash to actually buy one just yet. I wonder if the headlights meeting the kidney grille will become a standard BMW look now. |

The steering wheel was poor and the although the seats were an improvement in shape the plastics around the base felt cheap. The sun visor was flimsy, very similar to crap they put in the LCI model and the textured beige dash also looked and felt low quality. The cup holders were another failing point, they were concealed under a removable plastic cover rather than embedded into the dash. Not ideal. Also after questioning the dealer on spec level it would seem that yet again they are milking the extras. Why on earth xenon lights aren't standard is beyong me and the non-electric seats just seemed wrong on a premium car. This was on the "luxuary" model so i dread to think what they put on the boggo one! I know these points may seem trivial but these are the things I notice. I'm just hoping the 4 series comes with a build quality and spec level closer matched to the 5 rather than the 3. |

Personally feel the E90 interior with sports seats and properly integrated nav is MASSIVELY nicer looking than the F30 with the stick on flap at the top and the plastic streak thing across the middle. And the armrest looks crap and the door thud sound when you close it is nothing like as good..
Don't know about sitting in though. I only had a look at one from outside.

Did you see the instruction pic on the cup holder cover with a "put it in the glove box" diagram? |

I've been and sat in one the other day, I just can't get excited over this car as IMO this is like when i had my mk5 golf and the mk6 came out. Pretty much the same car with new body panels and a new dash. The dash in the mk6 golf was better than the mk5 but in this case i really do prefer the e90 for one big reason, it just looks more classy along with the door cards and handles too

In what way??
To me the 5 series is a nothing car these days, it is dull to drive and no where near as comfy as a Merc E Class. The Merc is actually more focused as well. In fact, I hate to say this, but the new A6 feels nicer than the 5 in some ways. The new 3 series seems to have the emissions thing sorted and..........well that is about it. Sure the chassis is great, but not sure about the engine line up so far, a car specced with what I call essentials comes to £38,000 for a 320d, and that I just can't get my head round. Spec a 320d up to match a 520d and there is nothing in it price wise, again, that makes no sense either. |

I saw the new 3 series at my local dealer last weekend. They had the Modern, Luxury and Sport in the showroom.
In the flesh I didn't like the front of the car at all. The back looks ok ... a bit like the 5er. The interior is ok but didn't feel special. The Nav screen just didn't look right much prefer the E90 or the 5er Nav screens. The barky wood interior looked awful in the Modern. The Modern was a 335i with a load of options coming in at £45K! The base price for this car was £35K which I thought was high. I didn't get a chance to test drive but will be doing so in the next few weeks.
