Do both. I would prefer light forged wheels first because it improves all aspects of performance, with a tiny minute increase in reliability/longevity to boot. Win/win.

Here's the article
http://www.caranddriver.com/features...d-tires-tested Awesome that the advice of 1:2 ratio is here and not the incorrect 1:10. |

Also keep in mind that the taller the sidewall, the better, for drag racing. You want the sidewall to absorb the shock of getting the car going as well as helping weight transfer to the rear.

Man I can't wait until spring time, I bought some used Volk re30 18x8.5 with michelin ps2 tires and really looking forward to throwing them on. They weigh about 39 lbs. a corner, I still have stock rft's with 17 inch 159 rims. Does any one know what my stock wheels and tires weigh?

This is simple to test. The stock mufflers weigh about 40lbs, so drop them do run, add them do a run, and tell us what you think.

To the OP I was looking for lightweight wheels ideally for less unsprung weight, i went with TRMotorsport MT1 18X9 18.5lb each coming from my stock 189's. I did a highway test and gained about 2mpg due to the new wheels and i could also feel the car was a bit more nimble. Just over 1g for tires and wheels combined from tirerack. |

As far lighter wheels and tires...the unsprung weight reduction will help in both handling (if your suspension is set up properly) and drag racing. The fact that it is also rotational weight will definitely help in acceleration. The switch to lighter wheels over stock should yield you close to a 1mph gain in traps. In general for unsprung weight in our cars: 100lb reduction = 10hp= 1mph/.10 sec qtr mile advantage.

I thought the 18" 162s were closer to 24.7 lbs Front and 26.2 lbs Rear. I'm also ready to switch from 162s to APEX ARC-8, but going 17x8.5" front and rear.

I just weighted my new light wheel/tire setup:
- Sportline CS.16 18" wheels - 19lbs each - for $950 + $100 shipping - 2xNitto 555R drag radials 285/35/18 - 24lbs each - $275 per tire - 2xContinental DWS 245/40/18 - 23lbs each - $160 per tire Total cost (within the US): $1960 Savings: 27lbs rotational mass over my old 17" setup. Looks: 100% better Hoping for at least 0.2s improvement. |

Don't underestimate the DWS. I run them all around and can dead hook in 20 degree temps from a 40 roll with well over 400 whp.

I'll be looking for a nicer wheel (was thinking 193M's) with PSS tires. That way I match trimming and also get better traction and lose the RFT's. |

Exactly. In fact, they are very well matched to the drag radials and serve their purpose well: they are very light (what purpose is light wheels with heavy tires ?), they have a soft but not overly soft sidewall just like the 555R drag radials (helping with the overall balance of the car) and I got them in 245 width (instead of the usual 235) in order to help with the stopping power in the summer. This setup is a daily driver drag racing setup, not a track setup. And when the winter comes, just stick 2 DWS tires on the rear axle and that's it, winter ready
