Engine Malfunction, wastegate rattle

Alright guys. Attempted an FMIC install today and the car immediately decided to hate me post install. Before driving her onto the lift today I did notice a peculiar puff of smoke, but decided it was nothing.

Installed FMIC, took the car out around the block. No power. Boost was around 4-5 PSI, cranked up to stage 1 map 2, on 11-25 aggressive procede. Nothing....

Brought the car back onto the lift, tightened all clamps... and I mean TIGHTENED all clamps... Back around the block, still 4-5 PSI. At WOT,
"ENGINE MALFUNCTION"

Put the stock FMIC back in, cleared procede, attempted full adaptation reset. No luck... Back to stock... AGAIN!

So I take it back around the block now, I get the engine malfunction light again, but heres the kicker... Wastegates are chattering LOUDLY.

Just terrible... I was at the dealer every week for the past month... Bad Injectors. Then leaking valve cover. Then bad fuel lines.

Whats going on this time!!!!

Sounds like a boost leak.

Did you check all connections? Even the charge pipe?

yea the intercooler came with a new charge pipe so I installed that, made sure the clamps were tight 5 times no luck... I put the entire stock system back in no luck either...

Im thinking bad turbos... If it were a boost leak the wastegates still wouldnt rattle... They are tethered to a different vacuum source so It wouldnt be affected the same way...

If I could lemon law this thing I'd be in heaven

Everytime I've had a boost leak I get the engine malfunction. I would agree with the others and say you have a boost leak. Possibly an issue with the intercooler itself? Bad factory weld?

I'm under CPO so I'm going to take it back to the dealer. I did install/uninstall and tighten about 4 times. The last time I reinstalled the factory FMIC which uses those compression fittings. Theres nothing else that I could have damaged... This is driving me nuts...

I'll post back with the verdict. Never the less, the turbos are chattering. The dealer already replaced the turbo's once. I dont think the chattering would be related to a boost leak in the intercooler piping.

Check codes. If its 30ff its most likely a boost leak. Check all lines if ur able to. I checked all mine and was stumped and took it into the dealer and the 30ff low boost pressure was due to shot turbos. Il know exactly what went wrong soon. I hope for u its just a boost leak. Good luck with the fix. Remember that a boost leak cJ be the size of pin holes!

Your issues sounds exactly like what im currently going through, my local indy shop tested the waste gates today and they are functioning properly.

I was thinking maybe boost leak somewhere, but nothing... everything is tight as a button and makes boost PERFECT under 5psi, but wont produce anything above that. feels like its on valet mode...

are you currently having it fixed at the dealer? (im under warranty)

is it going to be an expensive job? I have a feeling this might be my same issue...

Thanks,
Travis
