what exactly does this do

Just wondering about this hose off the airbox if anyone knows

In real oem its item 10 on this page

Listed as SUCTION SILENCER/FILTER CARTRIDGE
any ideas how this function and is it really needed.

If its just there to make the induction noise quiter they why would I want it

Could be a 'tuned' stub to reduce resonant noises I guess.

A Helmholtz resonator?

Not connected to anything then?

connects to the air box underneath if I recall from when I had the bumper off to do the brake ducts
