I think you're getting confused. Isn't that gauge for the micro (pollen) filter? AFAIK there isn't one for the DPF.

There is a "time to go" for the dpf on idrive. Its a good question.

Really? There is one on my Jun 2006 330d. Showed over 100,000 miles to go when it had about 40,000 on the clock (i.e. it predicted it would need replacing at 140,000miles). Not checked it for a while though.

It has always been the last item on the list below the brakes, MoT, inspection, microfilter etc. as it is so far away in time.

Ditto, hence my post, my 2007 335d never had it either.

All this talk of dpf's is starting to concern me a little as I only do short infrequent Journeys in my car. The car has only covered 15k, is it more of a high milage problem?

AFAIK the I-Drive reports the DPF as Particle Filter. My car has done 102,000 miles - mainly motorway and the DPF has remaining life of 40,000 miles according to I-Drive. WHat I am not clear about is whether the car will go into limp mode when I have completed another 40k miles or whether this depends on the actual physical condition of the DPF.

It will probably create problems sooner for you as the short journeys never allow the temperature to rise high enough for a dpf purge to take place. Dpf purges normally happen every 2 or 3 tanks and require certain conditions, coolant temp greater than 78c and more than 12 litres of fuel I believe. You probably 10, maybe 15 miles of constant higher speed driving to get those temps.

At high mileage it's literally a case of the filter is full of fine ash that is created by the regen. 100k plus is a very reasonable life span imo but that's for higher miles trips.

If it doesn't regenerate often enough from short journeys it will clogg with much thicker soot compared to the fine ash a dpf purge creates.

Sorry mate, I (stupidly) presumed all diesel 3'ers would be the same.

Strange why they have it on some and not others

Cheers,

Charlie

Seems odd that a 335d from a poster above didn't have it listed on idrive.

Memory might be playing tricks but i recall some early e9x 320d (with downturned pipes) didn't have dpf I don't think, but I thought all the e9x 6 pots had one?

No probs mate. I'd have thought that they would have all had it also. Strange why they don't.

Maybe they removed it because it was wildly inaccurate

The ash created after a purge is much finer than the large soot particles pre purge. I can only assume that if you start doing short journeys that dpf lifespan estimator may change drastically if the dpf isn't reaching temp or completing a purge.

Anything give or take 30k miles

Where is your info from that it's wildly inaccurate?

Mine's saying another 50k or so before it needs doing - is it serviceable or does it get replaced at £1500 a time?

When it's due I'll very seriously consider just removing it and having it mapped out.
