E91 Front Disks and Pads

Hi guys,

My car is due to have these replaced soon and I don't fancy paying BMW prices for the work. I'm quite capable of doing it myself. Just want to check if there's anything I need to be aware of before doing it? Guessing I'll need the warning light reset?

The principle is generally the same and if you've changed before all should be fine. I've never changed on my E92 as too new and under warranty but have done on my old 1 Series (essentially the same braking setup).

You can reset the light from the dash so no worries there. I personally would also change the brake wear sensors. Some say you can re-use if the sensor has not touched the discs, but i found that they didn't stay on firmly on the new pads so replaced them also (which I beleive are circa £20 each).

Did mine a few months ago, very simple job, warning light is reset through dash board. Buy a new sensor, you'll only end up buying one and jacking the car up again if you don't.

Main thing I found was that the caliper bolt (19mm I think from memory, though it was a couple of years back) was super tight, and you will almost certainly need the right socket & some leverage (not just a spanner etc.).

Agreed, you will benefit from a deep socket IIRC, for better clearance as a small extension is a bit much.

Also get a good 7mm allen/hex socket for the grub screw that holds the discs on. I did mine last month and std allen key was chewing them up as they were pretty seized. A decent hex socket gets a more even grip. 2 of mine were pigs.

Done my front pads and discs recently too. Got pagid discs, pads and brake sensor for just under 100 quid.
Not a hard job takes 30 mins but as Chesney says watch the screw that holds the disc....if its seized it can easily be rounded.

Deffinatley change the sensor its only 9 quid from euro car parts anyway.

You'd need to be a crazy fool to get bmw to rip you off changing pads and discs.
