Reprogram car after wheel and tire change?
I have a 2011 335d (non-sports package) LCI that have 17" wheels mounted. I am looking at purchasing from the forum some 18" staggered Style 193 wheels from an E90. I called a dealership to see if there might be any issues and was told a couple of things that I wanted to verify here:
1) Any suspension issue caused by going up to a wheel size not originally supplied with the car could possibly void the warranty? 2) If I did go up in wheel size I could only purchase wheels that were available for my car when it was manufactured (Style 195 and 193M) 3) The car would need to be reprogrammed for the larger size wheels and tires Any help in verifying or disavowing this information would be appreciated. |

If you stick with the same Outside Diameter (OD) tire then you wont need to reprogram. What they are talking about with reprogram is changing the calibrations for the speed sensor. A larger or smaller OD will either read faster or slower than actual speed because of the difference in circumference.
As for all the warranty crap, they can only void your warranty if they can prove that your aftermarket wheels directly caused an item to fail. LOTS of people run aftermarket wheels and have had no issues with the dealership at all. If the dealer gives you crap about it, its time to find a new dealership. |

1) They can only void part of your warranty related to the modification you make IF they prove the failure was a direct result of that modification. 2) You are not limited to OEM wheels. Many people on this board are running aftermarket brands, sizes, widths, etc. 3) The only thing that might need to be reprogrammed is your tire pressure monitor sensors.
