Full Logic7 System Replacement?
Who here has removed the entire factory system and replaced it w/ component speakers, subs, amps and headunit etc?
If you have, what was your setup and approximately how much did it cost? Thanks. |

I've installed new speakers and amps while retaining the BMW head unit. I have heard conflicting reports that hu removal prevents SW downloads during future service visits.
Morel Hybrid Ovation 4s are the best speakers there are for the F doors. Dotech Ovation 4s are good and lower cost, and the xovers will fit in the door. I like Integers Ovation coaxes in the E doors, and ace the R deck and center. The 6.5 underseat woofers can be used for midbass. I've used stock on a bandpass 50-200. I use the Morel ADMW6 if upgrading. The L7 amp has a crossover we can use and an EQ curve we can't. You need to reverse the EQ curve. I use the Zapco DC amps and BTL interfaces.

I wouldn't...remove anything per se.... What I'm thinking of doing to my e90 is adding kickpanels that are for all intents and purposes removable so if and when i sell the car I can take out my super expensive speakers and plug and play back in the old logic 7 system. I plan on making some sort of harness between the stock amp, after market eq, and stock speakers, so one could swap between aftermarket eq and stock eq. I'm still deciding whether I want to replace the under seat subs for better subs or put subs in an enclosure in the trunk, the latter would help the "remove when selling" thing better. But in any case, I wouldn't try to remove your logic 7 system, I removed the system in my X5 and have regretted it ever since. Also, with kicks and either under seat subs or in trunk subs, you are not sacrificing quality. Frankly the stock locations kinda suck imaging wise as they do in any car in stock form. Kicks minimize path length differences and just plain sound better. I haven't done it yet but here is my plan (avincar sold me on the morels )...
Processor: Alpine PXE-H650 ($400) Speakers: Morel Supremo 6 2W ($1500) Sub: Morel Supremo 9 SW ($700) Rears: Morel Integra Ovation 4 XO ($350) Amp: 2 x Audison LRX 6.9 ($2K total) Amp: Audison LRX 2.4 ($600) So including install probably $7-8K? I'll probably be doing this around the end of the year but I'm sure it will sound phenomenal. Also, you really don't need rear fill, that cuts off $1000....you don't have to run active, so you would only need one amp, that could possibly cut another $1K....etc.

Since you are in SoCal why don't you just go check out Reus Audio in OC. They actually have a system for our cars without ripping apart everything in it.

The 7-8k referred to Longodj's post right above yours.
I agree about checking out the Reus system. I just had their system installed in my 335i, and the sound is great. It sucks losing half the trunk, but that's the cost of admission for great sounding bass. |

If I remember right the bmwtips.com website has a link to how to do this in the older 5 series. They get into how the radio is setup and what to do to get around the digital signal. More importantly they show what speakers to use (freq range etc) and what type of crossovers you need (either active or passive). I have a 5 series that someone took out the logic stereo and really messed up. Bought amps from ebay and speakers from madison sound and had passive crossovers made that worked great (simple and cheap for good sound). Good luck with the stereo. I am happy with the current logic stereo.I like good speakers my home setup uses legacy towers.
