About how loud are catless downpipes?

On an N55? I'm not looking for ricer drone fartpipe loud or Peterbilt diesel loud, just a little louder and throatier than stock.
Something tells me I should stick with my stock exhaust..

downpipe/stock exhaust is your best bet.

should wait for yodaime's response...he goes thru more exhaust than i do underwear. but then again hes pretty young so his flavor of "good/bad ass/ultimate ftw the SON exhaust" should be taken lightly. they love the loud stuff yano lol.

DP + stock isn't too loud at all. It's 100% liveable.

Thanks to everyone. I'll ask about downpipes + stock. Didn't know that was an option.

How about?

Hey guys, how about with the performance exhaust? Will there be drone or will sound good still? I ask because I just installed the pe exhaust and love it.

It'll sound really good from what I've seen on videos. I'm not sure of anyone who has both the PE + DP though in the NY area though so you could hear in person..

CJ421 has the PE exhaust with the AR catless downpipe and it sounds amazing. We live in the Philly area.

I have the stock exhaust with BMS downpipe and it sounds real good I think. If I were to get an exhaust it would be the PE exhaust.

Good luck!

Since I have the xi which comes with two cats and I with the catless dps how bad is the smell? Wouldn't the second cat prevent the smell?

I hear yes, marginally. It already stinks more than my 328 out of the box

There's a meet coming up in the PA/NJ area - consider going to that, there will be a variety of different setups:
http://www.e90post.com/forums/calend...-18&e=2252&c=4

Stock exhaust + DP is a popular combo as noted, zero drone, and it has an acceptable noise level. People won't be looking at you unless you're really on the gas.

On a similar note, I'm looking at putting a AR catless dp on mine with a stock exhaust. I'm wtg on Cobb so I don't have a tune yet. Can anyone tell me if the drivability of the car changes if I get a CEL? Sorry if it's been answered before. I tried "searching" for it.

I run stock exhaust with dp and it's on the quiet side if you're looking for sound. Cut your secondary cats and you'll have one sweet sounding monster.

AR or Berk catless dp, both sound and perform the same. Here's my setup as I have the Berk catless dp and HKS Legamax catback exhaust.
