Mechatronic sleeve

I've had to have two mechatronic sleeves replaced within a year and a half period... luckily the second was covered by the parts guarantee.

Is this normal? Or indicative of a larger issue? Or a ploy to squeeze out an extra $710 from me. (My service guy didn't realize I just had it replaced when he recommended the service.)

Would be interested in hearing if this is a common issue...

Supposedly the sleeve from ZF was upgraded. Many 06's had this done at some time. Perhaps the replacement wasn't the upgraded part or it was done incorrectly.

the new one has all "black colored" o-rings as opposed to "orange colored" o-rings for the old one.
the sleeve is black plastic for old and new.

That's why I don't go to stealerships for service. You got hosed down big time. Shouldn't even cost half that, and the part lasts at least 50-60K miles.

I was shocked when I saw what they charge to change that part. If you can change your own oil you can do it yourself and a small fraction of what they charge.

Problem for me is getting the oil at the right temperature, etc...
