What's going on with my car?

I noticed the past two times that the car spews out black gunk out of the exhaust during a cold start. Is this oil? Should I take it in to get checked?

Hmm, I thought it might be carbon buildup from driving slowly. Black smoke usually means you're running rich, but you'd see an SES light for sure if it's smoking. Oil is blue smoke, so I don't think it's that. Have it scanned. There shouldn't be any smoke coming from your exhaust except a little condensation during cold starts.
