Unhappy Run off the road

Should have taken Friday as a bit of an omen for not travelling.

When I got up I heard on the radio that a paper lorry had a "coming together" with the central reservation and that M11 was closed northbound. Deviated traffic was using A120/A414.

I thought I'd give a go, none the less as I travel southbound and thought that at 8.45am, it would beginning to ease However, it took me over an hour to drive to the M11 southbound junction from my house, sitting in local traffic. So I gave up and drove back home. I waited for an hour or so and tried again, this time using some of the obscurer back roads to get to the A10 - I thought this might be quieter

On my way through one narrowing village road, I was met head-on by "White Van Man" in the middle of the road who wasn't hanging about.

Unfortunately he wasn't budging and I was left to mount the curb rather hastily or face some significant front-end damage.

The b@stard, didn't even stop and I couldn't even catch his reg in time......

I pulled over to survey the damage, and unfortunately I've curbed the near-side front alloy rather badly :mad:

Therefore I've got to go down the refurb route I hate alloys that aren't at their best. I wouldn't mind, but I've only had the car two weeks

Fortunately I have mobile refurber booked for today, so will post the outcome of his experience.

Here's some pics of the damage:

 Ouch! Nothing more frustrating than sustaining damage that isn't down to you. I had a moron (in an old 316 BMW!) who decided to race me through the lights at a single lane junction in Manchester on my way to the Genesis gig on Saturday. He came alongside and then floored it and went straight on on instead of turning right. I mounted the curb, but avoided any damage. When I sounded the horn, he slammed his brakes on and reversed towards me! Thought he was going to ram the front end, but instead he just mouthed a lot and tried to convey his feelings through the medium of sign language.

Hope you get a satisfactory repair.

Guys, I would also be worried that the steering/tracking are ok?

My first thoughts as well. However, I've driven the car over the weekend and haven't felt anything unusual, steering seems to be ok, doesn't pull to the left.
I think I may have mounted at the point of a half dropped curb, so possibly minimised the impact.

I'm assuming I would need a geometry check/alignment check. Where would be the best place to get this done? a BMW stealer or somewhere like Kwik Fit ?

When I damaged an alloy wheel my local BMW dealer did a great job for a reasonable £45. Worth checking out..........

Just think he could have be ON anything and reversed up and blown your head off. plenty of unstable people about nowadays

I'm a cyclist and have somehow learnt to not react when I get cut up.

Well, the refurb was done this afternoon by Wicked Wheels who I've used before on my Audi TT.

It took approx an hour for the refurb, including removing the wheel, refurbing, painting and refitting. Due to the tyres being RFTs, they don't actually remove the tyre from the rim, but edge the tyre wall back gently, mask-up and refurb the wheel without damage to the tyre.

The colour match is very good and the paint that they use for 193Ms is known as Sparkling Glass.

I was very pleased with the result and the fact they came to my home made it an easy choice. Well worth the £70 for the job and I would definitely recommend them for any further work. They are an Essex based franchise but operate nationally I believe.

Very impressive actually. I've never been a huge fan, preferring rock with a harder edge, but they were one of the bands on my 'to see' list, and I've been influenced by Tony Banks as a keyboard player. When they announced the tour I was in like a shot. Also got Police tickets, Stereophonics and Black Sabbath booked! As I play in a rock band myself I like to check out the competition!

They delivered a superb set of classic Genesis from the 70s and later material from the 80s and the light and sound system was superb, as you should expect for £70 a ticket!

Unfortunately that put me off this time.

Seen them before a couple of times and were allways so professional.

£70 isn't too bad for a fix like that. When I had damage on my last wheels my local refurb had to have the wheel for a week and stripped it down completely, welded it and re-finished and painted it. The job was superb but it cost me about £100 IIRC.

Thanks for letting us know about that company, sorry you had to make use of them!
