That's because the pulley belt drives the compressor for the A/C unit. If the compressor pump stops working, then this disrupts the refrigerant cycle.

Here is an example of the refrigerant cycle:

Have a great day!

I always found this attitude amusing. ALL cars have problems, whether you pay $9k or $1M for it. They are all machines, they all suffer from wear and tear, and they can all experience mechanical failures. There is no magic price point where a car becomes perfect.

I understand the fact that these are michines with moving parts. But for my vehicle to be out of my hands for 1 out of three months that I have had possession, is, in my opinion, odd. I can't see this being "wear and tear" on a vehicle that has less than 4000 miles.

Oh, don't misunderstand me, I was mainly replying to the one I quoted. It does suck to be without your vehicle for so long. It seems like a manufacturing defect, considering the time it will take to get the appropriate parts (they may have switched to a newer part design and are still on backorder).

New pulleys came in for my car in 2 days

Sorry to hear about the long wait. When my belt went on the freeway, took it to the dealer on Sunday afternoon, and had it back by Wednesday morning, also had the i-pod integration installed and they updated the i-drive. Maybe California dealers are concerned about long wait for repairs considering over 30 days violates our lemmon law.

Also of note, the SA told me that he recently received two 535's with the same issue. Perhaps a manufacturing defect similar to the fule pump issue.

the E93 i have is a 12/06 build. Friend of mine thinks that, as you said, an earlier design or design flaw has resulted in parts being ordered and/or manufactured from Germany itself.

As far as I aware, full North American production didn't start until 02/07. Im in discussions with BMW Canada to come to a conclusion to the initial and ongoing issues with my baby.

This is a good news, bad news posting:

Good news:
had the pulleys replaced

Bad news:
Today red battery light came on again with my air conditioning blowing hot air, right after my power steering stopped working again.
