brake help

I have a canadian car so I don't have the free maintenance on the car.
My brakes need to be replaced and I've decided to do it myself.
I'm keeping the rotors oem (I will replace them with new ones) but I'm thinking of getting Performance Friction "New Z-Rated" Carbon Metallic Brake Pads from bimmerworld.
My question has to due with the brake sensor and the idrive. Do I need to replace the sensors like some have told me? How does the idrive determine the mileage left on the pads? will that still work with aftermarket pads?
Also, how can I reset the idrive system for the pads?

I tried doing a search but came up empty. Sorry if it's a repost.
