having my bumper repainted
Ever since I bought the car last year from BMW of Fairfax the paint on my front bumper has been very flat. I didn't notice it till it was under direct sunlight and at the time of purchasing the car it had been snowing for a few days. BMW said they couldn't do anything except buff it out. Knowing they do some crappy paint work..I didn't even bother to have them do it..Anyways...the bumper apparently loves rock chips and is riddled with it. It's weird however because it seemed to have happened all in one day because prior to that day of recognizing it..I had washed the car and had not seen any rock chips.
I took the car to have it estimated at a couple of places. D&V estimated- $1100 for repaint of front bumper and lip 395 Collision Center-$900 for repaint of front bumper and lip Lindsey Collision Center-$630 for repaint of front bumper without lip Is this reasonable for repaint??

I brought my M3 rep bumper and M3 rocker panesl to Ashburn Collision and they painted it all for $425.
I realize you won't be able to pull your bumper off, but if you call them they may give you a better quote. Talk to Rob and tell him Sean and Jon sent you.....

Are they going to be molding the lip to the bumper? Not sure what that would cost but if you are asking them to paint the lip and bumper separately (which I assume you would want them to do) then I think $750 would make sense. Basically if it were itemized, it would look something like this:
1. Labor to remove front bumper 2. Labor to remove front lip from front bumper 3. Labor to prep front bumper for paint 4. Labor to prep front lip for paint 5. Paint front bumper 6. Paint front lip 7. Labor to install front bumper 8. Labor to install front lip Normally, I would think a front bumper repaint would cost around $400 and painting a front lip that was prepped already would be around $200. So really, the extra costs are for labor, which would make sense.

Also check with TJ who manages a collision center in Springfield. He's an E90 Post member and a good guy.

i just had a guy paint my front bumper of my previous e90 repainted in the hyattsville area. the place is called new horizon auto body. they did a great job. and no i dont work for them, but i was getting quotes for like $900 dollars for a fairly simple paint job.. they did it for $400, and car turned around in a day. it was base clear and high grade paint... if interested the dude's name is julien - his number is 202 352 5959
