correct me if i'm wrong but the FRMs are not different at all, it's all in the coding, because you can adapt xenons to a car that did not come with them without replacing the FRM

Just wondering why you think your FRM2 was incompatible? Part nos. are identical between car configs., obviously the coding determines what options are active.

If you want one off an LCI car (late FRM2, FRM3) with a higher coding index, I understand

It has to be a coding issue, there are no different FRM2s for non xenon and xenon, your friend needs to make sure he's reading and adding the right options to the FA

I assure everyone that there is a hardware difference between adaptive and non-adaptive FRMs (at least some versions of the FRM2).

There were two different part numbers, at least for a short period of time:

Before you question my credentials, I've been coding for 3 years. I have done numerous FRM upgrades. In Gideon's case, I tried everything possible, including flashing the firmware on the FRM2. Could it be a defective unit? Possibly... but all signs point to a hardware limitation as everything works except the adaptive feature.

Let me know if I'm mistaken and if you think I haven't tried something, I am all ears.

Another thing, slightly unrelated but worth thinking about in this context... have any of you ever been able to retrofit AHL xenons (with working AHL) on a halogen car (with a halogen AKA non-AHL FRM)?

Examples of non-AHL FRMs (these will not support adaptive headlights no matter what coding you do to them):

bump..... still looking,
It's unfortunate that there are two different versions. I wish we knew before that painful install. I'll let you know if I run into any FRM2 or FRM3. In the meantime, if someone has a work-around that we haven't thought of, that would be great.
