From the quote you posted, I don't see how he's reading it wrong? NJ points do not transfer over onto his NY license. However, you better be careful if you do plead guilty and send in the money. Your license may be suspended in NJ if you exceeded their points per yr threshold. Obviously, you have some contact w/NJ so, again, pleading guilty w/o trying to lower points would not be in your best interest. If you're caught driving in NJ when NJ has suspended your driving privil, you'll likely be arrested and face some strict penalties.
Some links to help you determine whether you face suspension: http://zestive.com/carmvpoints.htm ; http://www.njtrafficlawyer.com/point_system.htm |

No i'm not a lawyer, they never tell ya the truth, they tell ya what ya wanna hear. After living in NJ all my life, i realized the only way to protect yourself is to be truly educated in the laws of the municipal court systems. I don't want your money, I just don't want you to be a victim of the court or yourself. But i'll tell ya one thing, everytime ya get stopped, the whole process is documented from start to finish. So by the time ya go to court for the second offense, the judge will see all the dealings of your first appearance in the other court. He'll see why and where you were stopped and he'll see what you pleaded down to. This gives him the abilty to veto the deal you make with the prosecutor. So for your own sake get a V1 and chill out behind the wheel man. I'm not preaching to ya, I'm warning ya. YOU CAN NOT BEAT CITY HALL!!!!!!!!!!!!

A V1 isn't going to save this kid from jack if he's going that fast. NJ troopers use laser -- by the time the light on the V1 goes off, he'll be seeing flashing lights in his mirror. Get a V1 & a laser jammer, but it's still not enough...you gotta slow down and be alert!

92 mph on the turnpike is nothing. If your not going 85 you are getting passed big time. The NJ tunpike is a very fast highway. Most tickets on that highway are for 100 plus. State Police use radar or laser very little on the Turnpike. Most tickets are done by pacing...I.E. Cop will go 90 in the truck lanes and see if cars ahead in the Car lanes are pulling awayfrom him. Done all the time and most tickets on the Turnpike are given from pacing. laser is done from the overpasses.

I'm not saying all or a majority use laser, I was just posting from my experience in getting a ticket from a NJ state troopers using laser. However, it was on 287 -- didn't think that the TP would be any different, but apparently it is?

conatacted lawyers and checked with nj and ny dmv.
NY: Points do not carry over from other states besides in Quebec and Ontario. Points do carry over in any state though for drunk driving, drug charges, etc. NJ: 45 States Points carry over. (would list the states void but lazy right now to go back to nj dmv website ) Same with the drunk driving, drug charges, etc If points do not carry over, you pay everything is good. BUT insurance companies can still see the tickets and will/may raise your insurance or do whatever their plan is. |

damn these speed limits in the us are SOOO friggin outdated. who keeps 55 on palisades. yes the nj turnpike is a VERY fast highway. speed there should be 80 lol.
for some reason my 335i feels REALLY stable even when going 135mph but 120-125mph feels very safe too and feels like your oging like 90mph. very nice. |

Someone already pointed it out, but NJ is now starting to us LIDAR, go to http://www.radardetector.net and learn and get some help. People are betting LIDAR tickets, there is plenty of opportunity for Officer to screw up the reading. On the ticket it should have indicate what kind of method was used to get your speed.
Also, even though most states say points transfer, I have not seen it done too often unless you do not pay the ticket. Most states only worry about getting your money, let alone trying to figure out what form they must fill out to report your traffic violation in your home state. I have friends in PA who commute into NJ daily and have lots of tickets and they have no points showing up on thier PA licenses and NJ has not stopped them from driving in thier state. There is a couple of roads the the NJ police sit on waiting for thier PA victims, you travel in NJ enough with out of state plates they will get you, the same holds true for Ohio, they grab people there for 1 mile over if your from out of state. How do they know your from PA, no front plate unlike NJ & OH Last edited by Maestro; 07-10-2007 at 03:03 PM.. |
