How many miles in hot pursuit do you spend in that time? I thought I read before the traction control could not be turned off on your police car? |

No way mate, no exaggeration. The tyres on the beemers are constantly getting replaced due to wear or punctures. Remember they are driven very hard 24/7 and regardless of TC permanently on they wear out super quick. We replace tyres when they are nearing 2mm tread depth.
I'd say roughly 300 miles per day, about 100 of those would be off on emergency shouts. *edit* ok 3 weeks max was wrong of me to say, more like 3 weeks typical. Can last longer if having a quiet stretch (unlikely) or if the car goes in for service/work (2 weeks to fit an alternator lol) etc, sorry. On my own 330d my 452's are wearing thin on the front and need replacing but the new wheels should be on in a few weeks and I'll bung a set of winters on the mv3's. You need to be chaging them at about 2mm dont forget. So the OP really only has about 2mm of life left. On average you're probably talking 4months on a town car. FWIW I drive 1-2k miles a week now, gently on motorways 80% of the time. My fronts are oem and still have a lot of life left at 50k On the second set of rears last week. The 335i fronts have done over 20k and one trackday and still lots of meat left (Falkens) On the second set of rears, and need a change in a few weeks or so - so about 10k a pair which is very good given the burnouts...

On my last set (RFTs) I got minimum 20k out of rears. Fronts had minimum 20k too, still had 4mm when I removed them!
Motorway miles...

I think because the rft are more firmer they are slightly better on the wear rate. When I bought my car it had the usual bridgsh17 rf tyres, the rears were on about 5mm and had done approx 8k and they were down to to 3/4 mm approx but the front looked hardly worn (came with about 7mm and after 8k would guess about 5-6mm left)
Ive changed all 4 corners to normal tyres and so far have done 1k on Kumho KU39 so cannot comment fully on the wear rate just yet |
