Unhappy BMW performance steering wheel cover

Just a quick one guys. Does this include the outer part and inner part numbers 1 and 3 in the picture? Where can I get the part numbered 3 if not?

part 1 is the wheel and part 3 is the cover I'd suggest.

Yes so does this item come with part one and two? I'm thinking just 1. Where can I get 3 the cover as mine is peeling as is my door pull on drivers side? I know this is a common problem can you do anything to fix yourself?

So this is just the trim - the cover which surrounds the buttons. For your damaged one, you can rub down or use thinners to take off the rubber coating, then prime and paint. Plasticote is one product but I think halfords do a matt paint for plastics which looks better.

You can buy the trim from bmw direct. For the 'sport' steering wheel the price of the trim is less eye watering, the m sport trim is very pricey.

and for the door handle, as it comes in one piece with the door card there isn't much you can do. However, if you have a black interior you can rub off the coating carefully, or as above, use a cotton bud dipped in thinners to take it off. I did this and it looks like it was supposed to be this way. The quality of the plastic is high so not sure why they felt the need to coat it.

OK I think I'll try thinners on the door pull. Doing this on the cover is there a need to paint it rather than just leaving the plastic like I'm the door pull?

as long as you remove the rubber carefully. The problem on the wheel trim is that areas which are often rubbed go a bit shiny. But I'd strip it first and see what you think.

go careful with the thinners. I wouldn't tape around the area in case you get thinners under the tape - it'll take the colour off the leather etc. Small steps and lots of paper towel to quickly remove accidents.

I used this to remove the coating - takes a bit lnger but is a lot safer.

Also I think the alacantara option only works if you have other performance bits in the stuff.

Have you considered wrapping the existing cover?

I think I quite like the alcantara insert, here's a couple of other threads about it.
