Well I was in maybe 4th or 5th and not going very fast. I hit the trottle pretty hard and the yellow half engine light came on. I read the codes with my COBB AP and the first one was:

P2A87 VANS Plausibility. What does this mean?
and then this one:

P3100 It had no description. Anyone know what this is? Hoping neither are too serious. I cleared the codes with the COBB AP for now until I can have someone look at it.

I got the exact same thing today too. Exact same codes, and the exact same code clearing mentality.

P3100 is the limp mode. it follows always another code that caused it.
you might have VANOS solenoids issues. just wait and see if it comes back. Also search for the VANOS codes here for more infos...

Thank you enrita. If I do have VANOS solenoid issues, is it something thats very costly to fix?

I just did a bit of searching and it seems that the first thing to do is pull out the VANOS solenoids and clean them. The DIY link I first tried didn't work, but it's apparently VERY easy and only takes about 30 minutes. Quick searches also showed that it can be common on hard pulls with or without the Cobb AP after 45-50k miles.

It doesn't seem to be anything major at first glance.

[intlink]530360;Code thrown - P2A87[/intlink]
[intlink]677075;ust got half engine light and two codes? Can someone clarify?[/intlink]
[intlink]645623;Vanos problems with cobb code p3100[/intlink]
I just got back in my car to see how it is. now I get the half engine light, and the code P3OFF which I got before with a boost leak. that problem has been gone for a while but now seems to be back. but this time I didn't get the other codes. Could the P3OFF code be something linked to the P3A87 code for the vanos? Or is the P3OFF a whole different issue I have to deal with? kind of confusing.

Could the vanos solenoid issue have caused me to also get the P3OFF code or do you think the P3OFF is something totally different?

Make sure the power is plugged in properly for your tune.

See if you popped your charge pipe, check your intercooler connections.

The DIY for the solenoids are pretty easy and the repair is relatively cheap ~$200.

I believe when I was getting the p3OFF code before it was the connection to the FMIC which was tightened and then I didnt get the code anymore. But now all of the sudden it happened yesterday after the vanos code. So Im hoping maybe it was related but I dont know.

are you running the latest 401 maps? DVs can also leak. just clear codes, if it happens again clean the solenoids, if it happens again change them.

you should update to V401 since V400 was throwing some 30FF codes on some cars. that was fixed on V401...
