But this is quite high-tech, much simpler to chuck a brick through the window, as happened to idnan below. idnan..... any idea why they didn't nick your car? I notice you are in B'ham. Did you disturb them? |

If that's the case then they'd have to be watching you the whole time? Unless they put some kind of jammer near your car. I always lock my car and then pull on the handle to check.

I have comfort access so I definately locked it but the alarm didn't go off Cheers mate, I've taken a few steps to ensure they won't be able to take it in a hurry if they try again. |

99% of the problem is once you get in you can drive off in under 2 mins using a blank key. |

I want to know why BMW charge £164 for a new key when its clearly so easy to reprogram a blank key. Does this affect the entire E9x range?

Yesterday the lock button on my fob stopped working when I parked on my drive, so I locked it manually.
Same happened this morning when I got my parking space for work. Locked it manually. I had read about this before hand so was looking around for someone who may be jamming the lock, then thought "its a 2005 320d, hardly the most valuable BMW to steal". The point is, this sort of thing just makes everyone paranoid doesn't it. Coincidentally, a guy on my road had the equipment to reprogram keys about 3 weeks ago - I had my X5 at the time which used old style keys and he said he could only do the new type push button start keys. He bought it cheap and wanted to offer it as a service but sold it a week later (I remember he did have one guy come down in an e90 and he used it on that). This is clearly the exact same type of equipment being used in the thefts and its only just clicked in my head. He sold it to a guy in Essex I believe, but I will have a word with him later - there is a good chance that the person he got it from and/or the person he sold it to are up to no good and even if not, it might be helpful to the police to know who is buying and selling this stuff. |

I'm sure the thieves don't buy their blank keys over the counter from BMW though eh? I agree, all this jamming stuff is far to messy, just break the window, climb in through the deadlocked door and away you go. Although the scrote is a bit vulnerable stuck in a deadlocked car if they get spotted by anyone. When his mated have legged it its difficult to climb out quickly with a bat round your head. AFAIK it affects every push button BM, 1, 3, 5, x5, x6, 7 & all the M's! |
