For those who have installed coilovers themselves

Does anyone know how to get the front strut off? We took off all the necessary nuts and bolts but could not slide the strut off of the bottom mount. It's sort off like a big clamp that goes around the strut with a bolt and nut on one side. We tried spreading it apart, wd40, smacking it, etc... but it wouldn't budge. I don't want to take the car to a shop to get it done; I want to do it myself. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks.

I haven't done a coilover install on the E9x yet so I can't help you out too much, but from what I have read in your post it sounds like this would help you out...

Look at step #15... I think that you need to compress the front springs to remove the front coilovers unlike every other car on the planet that would just have it fall out after unbolting them.

You need to get a crowbar, and pry the clamp apart and pull the strut out....WD40 won't do crap, you need to force it out with muscle....

Ok cool, we tryed that too without any luck so I wasn't sure if we were doing it right. I even had my friend hold it apart while I was stomping down on it. I'm gonna try again tommorow at my buddies shop now that I know we were doing it right. Thanks.

We used a rubber hammer to hit the bottom of the struts to slowly move it up out of the clamps. Took a while to.
