Note: I would highly suggest buying the following parts instead of transferring from your OE trunk:
1) Badge 51 14 7 146 051. No grommet needed as the badge already has double sided tape included 2) Stop buffer: 51 71 7 162 385. Use double sided tape to mount. 3) Expanding nut for license plate holder: 51 12 7 020 321 ------------------------------------------------------------------------- 1. Mount the new trunk -- Partially attach the upper screws so that you can "hook" the trunk onto the hinges. Slightly tighten screws so that the trunk is not loose. Close trunk and check for fit. Adjust the trunk as needed. 2. Insert the wire harness. Install stop buffers. Install expanding nuts for license palte. 3. Install lights. Could be tricky because the CF sheets may be thicker than OE. Do it carefully. 4. Install license plate lights and trunk switch. Note: plate lights in pictures are installed wrongly. Should be turned 180 degrees. 5. Install the latch and key catch (drill mounting holes as needed). 6. Install white wire retainer. 7. Check all electrical components and mount wires. 8. Install carpet. 9. Install badge from outside. Place badge on trunk to check fit, you may need to correct the mounting holes. -------------------------------------------- good references: http://bmwfans.info/original/E92/ - for part numbers http://www.bimmerfest.com/forums/sho...d.php?t=254181 - for remvoing trunk. http://mileoneparts.com - order parts online |

oh by the way, you might want to have a dremmel handy...i had a few areas where the components didn't fit and had to sand down ever so slightly. mainly, where the trunk opener switch is. also, it is not necessary to drill the roundel post holes out. all i did was 3m tape the roundel on. my logic is the fewer holes, the better.

Or if you don't have a Dremel, a round file and triangle file will do the trick.
I picked up this set from my local AutoZone for like $8. Worked wonders for all the the areas that needed adjusting.

Op,
2) Stop buffer: 51 71 7 162 385. Use double sided tape to mount. from the time you done this, has the double sided tape kept the "stop buffer" in place? i was thinking if i need to get expanding screws to hold it in place instead. |
