Interior detailing
Hey guys
I know this has probs come up a thousand times but was just wondering what everyone uses to detail the interior of their cars. Other than the weekly vac and quick wipe over with a wet towel, my cars interior hasn't had a good detail since i got it. The seats look really shabby for a 2.5yr old car aye. Although no1 is ever in the back there are white stains all over them (and no it is not from parking - just seeing who has a dirty mind like me) and the front are just as bad. What sort of leather treatments are there out there that will bring it back to new again? Dan

I'm pretty careful with my interior to the point where if I've been sitting down on a dirty seat or something I'll have to either sit on a plastic bag or take off my pants. Anyway enough of that I will usually:
1. Wipe down with damp microfibre. This removes 80-90% of surface contaminants and dirt... I'll do this once a fortnight 2. Wipe down + shampoo with Autoglym shampoo. Wipe down with damp microfibre first, then spray some shampoo onto the seats and gently scrub using a horsehair brush. Then I'll spray a bit more shampoo and wipe off with a clean soft cotton towel. Probably every 3 months 3. Wipe down + shampoo + conditioner. Perhaps every 3 or 6months, as above but I'll massage some Autoglym conditioner into the seats, let it cure for a while and then wipe off. I've heard good things about Zaino and would be keen to buy that next time when my Autoglym stuff is finished. I also get stuff from here, both online purchases and I've picked things up from their showroom before: http://www.carcareproducts.com.au/ |

I do more or less the same as Stu, apart from removing my pants
We both have lemon so hard to keep clean, also I have 3 kids & a wife that has no concept of dirt & cars (to the point I don't let her drive my car unless its absolutely necessary). I've been using Swissvax since the car was new, been very happy with it and cannot be bothered changing. I also get my gear from Car Care Products, Mike the owner is a personal friend and a stand out guy. Quote:

And Zaino is by far the best product I have found to date!

Shit the local Zaino folk are as bad as the slime folk.
I just had a look at the us site and for a Z-2 kit in the states is a little under 120 whereas the local distributor wants over $300. looks like its off to ishopusa again!!! |

Vaccuum regularly with a soft brush attachment, followed by gentle wipe with damp soft cloth. I did nothing else for 18 months - most leathers have a coating making dressings unnecessary.
I've since tried Zaino and Autoglym. Zaino cleaner is nice to use but 1:10 Softly wool wash does a similar job. Zaino protectant leaves the leather a little shiny and slippery for a few days but the eventual effect is good. Autoglym is more of a cream which also gives a subtle sheen and feels to moisturise the surface nicely. Again, the best way to restore leather is never let it get grubby in the first place. Taking off pants is also bad as it will allow skin oils and salts contact. I drive in microfibre overalls.

Clean!
Love the overalls Johnny LOL, You could do a body rub on the duco with those and have no fear of swirl marks, add velcro to the outfit instead of press studs. hehehe
Seriously Though, You are on the money with Autoglym. It is the all round best. Repco now 20% off in Melb.. Cheers |

As for cleaning I vacumm once every 2 - 3 weeks and every month or so I give it an application of BMW's leather protection lotion (only cos I managed to get it for free). Once that runs out I'll try the leather lotion for my couch. Last edited by Haydrick; 12-05-2011 at 12:56 AM.. |
