Coilovers or strut/sping combo for ultra cold weather?

Thinking about lowering my car with either KW v1 or v3's but where i live it gets cold as hell

-25 C or -13 F

Will running them in this kind of weather create issues/ problems and will they still work properly or freeze up?

Or should i go for Bilstein sport + eibach pro kit spring?

Thanks for your help!

I dont live in a cold environment, but there are a lot of northern US and Canada members who use KW in the cold. Most raise and lower the car between seasons. Id suggest speaking to a KW rep and talk to them about options.

im leaning towards KW V1's because of adjustability. Hows the ride?

My personal car has Eibach Multi-Pro R1 coilovers and my friends e92 has KW v1. We traded cars for a week so mind you any comfort review I give would be only a week of seat time and at other times riding with him.

The v1 has the height adjustment which is excellent. I would say the v1 has the same ride as the BMW sports suspension with a slight edge on control over mild to medium bumps. It feels better around the corners with less body roll, but that could be due to the ability to lower the car and its center mass.

Hope that helps some, there are TONS of reviews on the KWs and ST coils. (You can use the ST reviews to base an opinion, the only difference is the steel used) With your cold conditions and possible salt/sanded roads I would go with the KW over the ST brand.

Thanks for the help!

After reading a couple of reviews Cold weather will make the coilovers have a bit of noise, and are prone to leakage (wear and tear).

So im guessing strut/shock + lower springs have less maintenance?

Maintenance would be the same on both a well made coilover and name brand strut/spring combo. The rear of the KW and a Koni/H&R or Eibach set up would be near identical (Only difference being the spring perch having adjustment ability on the KW). The front, using the stock pillow mounts (The part that connects the strut/coilover to the strut tower) would also be near identical with the only difference being the threaded strut body allowing height adjustment. Sand, salt and grime can get into the threads over time. If I lived where you did, each summer when I changed tires from winter to summer, Id clean the threads a bit.

You cant go wrong with either the KW or a Koni Yellow/spring set up. Both are well made. The question you have to ask yourself is, do I want height adjustment or not? Is the price difference worth it to you?

I want height adjustability since my winters are retarded. price doesnt matter. How much did you pay for install? a local shop is asking for ~$1000 for install, adjust and 4 wheel alignment

I live in a smaller town where labor is still cheap. 6 hours labor, adjustment and alignment was $744 after tax.

I had my friends do it and it was a couple of beers and wings. jk they are really nice group of friends but on a serious note I just swapped from H&R sport springs to ST coils and all I can say is that the ride is comfortable and is slightly stiffer over ZHP suspension. I feel like it needs to be a lil stiffer but unfortunatly ST s can not be adjusted.
