Proper cable for coding

Hello, I have been reading through this forum and am trying to learn how to perform various coding operations. First and foremost, I'm trying to figure out which cable I need to get. There's a sticky thread called "Coding success" in this forum that has a link to a cable, but the link is no longer working.

I'm about to buy a JB4 and it comes with a USB cable of some sort. Will that do the trick or do I need something else to get started? I'm generally fairly handy with this sort of thing, but a little push in the right direction would be much appreciated. The info on this forum seems extremely helpful.

Thanks!

This is local to you and a distributor of the cable which only takes about 3-4 days after ordering to get to your house...they are located in New Brunswick New Jersey.. Its a proven cable as I referred about 7-8 people that also bought it from them and all confirmed it works!

I've looked into cables before, but I have an early (02/07) build. Don't some cables require an adapter? Maybe I'm wrong. If I am, I'll probably buy this cable.

Won't work in your case. It's for after 3/07

I was considering and just about nearly ready to buy the BT cable...after talking to Owen from BT, it seems it is limited to do anything I really want.
If we can reset our trans. adaptions with this cable and the downloads, I may as well grab this cable and give it a try to reset the trans and code to get the things I want and deactivate stuff I don't want.
If it can do just as good as BT and more, this is the way to go for me, obviously it isn't as user friendly as the BT interface but some time/practice, and research, in time it can get easier.
The download in post #3 in this link > http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=646357
is the one I intend to go with. My build is 4/07.

That's it? I could probably modify the harness myself.

Awesome! General engineering knowledge ftw lol.

So just to be clear, the 02/07 and earlier production vehicles require pin 7 and 8 to be separated in the harness on the cable?
