Does she only have the kit lens with it? If so, I would recommend getting a zoom lens, 70-200 or similar. I would also recommend a flash. I've noticed a huge difference in picture quality from using the on board one. Bouncing light from the ceiling is a lot more flattering.

One great thing about the new higher end DSLRs is their low light, high ISO capability. In most situations, I don't even bother with a flash anymore. And those big heavy pricey f/2.8 zooms are less of a necessity (except for getting a nice bokeh, but that's what fast primes excel at).
