Things I have to consider/take into account when getting new rims/tires?
I have a 2008 BMW 335i sedan base model.
The tires read 225/45/17R on front and back. What are the things I need to consider when buying new wheels? I was looking at the M3 wheels but keep reading that you need to do realignment etc. I want the handling and ride comfort to stay the way it is. I will not be driving this car in the snow. What are my options and easiest way to do this. It would be awesome if someone wouldn't mind helping out me out as I would appreciate it greatly. Thanks. |

Been working at this for a few weeks and the offset is the most important thing, on a stock 335 sedan, the offsets are different depending on the stance you are going for and the chassis which will differ from M3, e90 and e92 which is the coupe
Most poeple (including myslef) runa 9.5 rear wrapped in a 265-275/35 tire with a 235-245/40 front for the agressive look and the stock (sport model) stagger is 225/40/18 and 255/40/18 respectively. As far as size the 19 is the most common for daily highway, nice flushed look for level streets, but then there are all road condtion drivers like myself that feel more confident with an 18. I'd start with a 19 and know of a few members with some really good deals for lightly used tires in the above spec. Then there is a squared (all four same size) fitment that you'll get more life out of an all season, but most z rated tires are summer tread anyway. Hope this helps. Wheels are a whole other animal but the reccomended for the 335i base is an offset of 35 front and 33 rear. So the bottom line for your ride the safe reccomended fit is for stock setup (no springs, coils, big brakes, fender rolling) Tires: 225-245/35-40/18-19" Front 225-275/30-40/18-19" Rear Wheels: 8-9" Front 8-9.5" (Maybe 10")Rear Hence most common 8.5 and 9.5 Staggered wheel. Oh Yeah, the TPMS sensors will tell me if I have a underpressured tire, either tranfer from your exisitng set or lay out $200 for a new set. Will run without but lights and safety mechanisms will trigger (easily bypassed when disabling the Trraction control or the latest update with the JB 4 but we'll save that for later) The pricing difference is pretty big between 18 and 19" setups - so learn the lingo and talk to the vendors on the forum Last edited by VaDuro; 04-16-2012 at 10:39 PM.. |

Lightly Used 19" tires for sale?
I just bought wheels for my 335xi, 19 x 8.5 front, 19 x 9.5 rear, I'd love to save some cash if you can point me in the direction of someone looking to sell some lightly used tires in the appropriate size.
Looking for; 235/35/19 and 265/30/19 Thanks |

hear good things, but if you want to keep the weght to a minimum Continental DW(s)All - season high performance is 22 lbs. is the way to go Keep the weight down it helps gas mileage, performance and weight distribution. I am going with a roll forged apex and conti DWS wheels in an 18 . 42lbs compared to a 52 lb stock and runflat and a custom 19 goes a long way.. Don't forget the other reason you bought a BMW, performance |
