iPhone charging problem.

I've searched the forums but couldn't find the fix i needed.

I've got a '12 335 with iDrive, APPS, iPhone integration, etc. I hook my 4S up via the original Apple white dock to usb cable.

I'm ok with how it seems to work, function-wise. But it seems that when i am streaming Spotify, the phone uses battery faster than it charges. So it slowly dimishes. When i have no apps running and just plug it in, it charges, but really slowly.

Is there a solution that can help me get a faster, fuller charge while still letting me get music via dock (rather than 3.5mm aux)?

Nothing, huh? Guess I'm on my own.

Will post if I figure it out.

I've noticed the same problem. I'm not sure what the current output is but it is for sure less than 1 amp. I had a 1 amp charger connected in my other car and I was able to stream pandora and use navigation with the battery moving in the right direction.

I suggest an iPhone charger with 1 amps and use the aux input.

The only thing that sucks is you lose control of your iPod controls. You have to switch songs on your iPhone.

Car I believe has 500ma which is standard USB spec
500ma per port
You can get this cable, and an iPad car charger (2amp)
That's what I have and no matter what I'm doing, the iPhone still charges

You plug the skinny USB I to the car, and the fat one into the charger
So it connects the data lines to the car ( so you get the track forward, sound etc)
And it connects the power lines to the charger

When Iphone 4 came out none of the phone interfaces was able to charge the batteries. I think the USB spec is very close to what iPhone needs and putting an app like that in action obviously uses a lot of power and the USB can't keep up.

your phone needs 1 Amp of charging capability to charge faster than use during streaming. 500mA is not enough to keep up with current demand. This is completely normal

Thanks. That's as simple of an explanation as I've heard.

I ordered a Kensington kit with a dock connector to aux and USB. It comes with a higher output 12v adapter. Maybe this will do the trick.

I only really listen to Spotify and Audible apps, neither of which are able to be controlled by the steering wheel buttons anyway.

If this doesn't work, I'll track down one of those cables in the reply a couple of posts back.
