The mentality seems to be lets make it easier to jump into the game by keeping things more simple. Let "guide" the player choices to focus on fun. I understand it, but you lost so much depth. To me thats what keeps you involved in the game. Creating a charecter with details bonds you with your creation.

And yes my life is sad. M3, games, and occasional night at the strip club.

no care, have m3.

I agree with you, I was quite dissapointed with the fact you cant choose yours stats or build the skill tree.

Level 14 for the day...would play now but the Celtics game is on. I played the starter edition up until beating the skeleton king, bought the game, went back in and had to start over... Kept my level and all my gear, even kept the follower... But I had to go back through the whole act over again... Kind of sucked, but extra XP and money I guess... I'll have to check out the AH tomorrow...

So far, I'm not pleased with this game, at all. Long live Diablo 2.

What made Diablo 2 so fun and replayable was customization. I don't need to say anymore. All of you know what I'm talking about. Diablo 3 is like a budget action flick to make a quick buck from the masses. Of course, this can be a good thing because it means I won't be spending a lot of time on it.

I agree with you also to an extent.

at first I was this whole mind set then it struck me that d3 is far more customizable than d2 was.

D2 was full of the same over and over cookie cutter build in skill trees and stats.
(ex: hammerdin build, trap assassin, fist of heaven pally)

d3 truely has limitless combinations you can play with depending on playstyle.

things will get better as time goes on and the thrill of seeing legendary tan text drop on the ground will bring much satisfaction.

not to mention real money auction house and pvp will be great.

Even with the customization aside, it seems everything is so easy and dumbed down. Health globes everywhere to automatically heal you, unlimited mana, shrines that teleport you back to the entrance, no need for tp scrolls or id scrolls, inventory can hold so much, invincible allies that can be resurrected, etc. etc.

I remember in D2 I had a hell of a time trying to defeat Andariel in act 1. Making endless trips to town to heal, stocking up on health/mana potions before a big fight, but in D3 I beat the boss without breaking a sweat. And Mana conservation in D2 was a huge part of the strategy. I'm playing a wizard and mana is a non-issue.

The original Diablo 2 team left Blizzard, and if I remember correctly it is the WoW team that made Diablo 3.

Hey guys, lets take the discussion over to the proper sub-forum "Video + PC Gaming". We've created an **Official Diablo 3 Discussion* thread.

I don't really agree with everything you said.

Health globes tend to heal a bit, but it depends on your gear. If you have gear that adds more to what the globes heal for, then sure it heals a lot. On boss fights, I've noticed that globes are not as plentiful. Either way, you'd just substitute them with potions if you were smart (and didn't want to die), so don't see why this is an issue, how is popping a pot more difficult than using a globe?

On my DH, I run low on Discipline a lot, so sometimes I can't vault or lay a slowing trap. If I use Rapid Fire or Strafe, I run out of hatred fast... Maybe it's different with a mana class, I don't know.

TP and ID scrolls were annoying, and took up inventory space (4 slots if you used books). Good riddance... You'd just buy them and use the scrolls anyway, how does using a scroll make the game more challenging?

My inventory is constantly filling up, but that's probably because I pick up everything that drops and either sell it or salvage it. I mean I have to go back to town to unload gear all the time, so I don't think the inventory is that big personally.

My Templar has died quite a few times, and is nowhere near invincible even with rare items equipped, but then again, he is set to taunt and tank for me a bit. I tend to not scrounge for the health globes unless my character needs them, not paying attention to my Templar, so that's probably why he dies sometimes.

I would agree to some extent that there is little customization, but there is none in D2 either. Everything was cookie cutter in that game.

Not everything was cookie cutter in D2. I had a warrior mage (sword/shield sorceress), and aura providing paladin, and an assassin that was focused on melee. Sure these classes sucked in Hell difficulty but they were fun in PvP. At least I had a choice to make something different from everyone else.

I can't even imagine what Diablo 4 would be like. How about a single button that can wipe all the monsters on the screen? Nothing is challenging about clicking on a bunch of monsters until they die either. It's "annoying." So get rid of that too.

This was my first impression as well, I believe the whole game on Normal mode was a breeze. Took me less than 12 hours to solo the whole game.
Then I went to nightmare, then Hell. And with each progressive difficulty level, I dug deeper into my character's repertoir, to find ways to survive, to be successful, to dominate. It is amazing how many different combination of skills you can combined with one single character. I went through at least 30 builds within the last couple of days and everyone of them was needed to get past a certain part of the game. I love how you can do this with a flip of a coin. I kept dying on the first boss of hell using a build that worked so well on diablo in nightmare. But then I decided to look into a build that would work well against the skeleton king, took a few trial and errors, and found one that would beat him with no sweat, and I think that's what's so great about this Diablo 3.

Again, this is a new game. Don't go into it thinking it's Diablo 2. It's not like Diablo 2, but doesn't mean it's not a good game. I think it's even more challenging and more fun than the last game. I'm reaching level 60 soon and I still feel like I have no idea what I'm doing, and that's what's great about this game, it's all about learning your characters, and trying out and finding the builds that no one has thought of to beat and dominate the game in a way no one has done before anytime you want.

Also try "Elective Mode", it opens up a whole can of worms. At one time I had my skills as 4 defensive skills no fury spender and an ultimate, and another time I had all 3 ultimate with 2 fury spender and only 1 fury builder.

Perhaps one of the biggest difference is how players respawn after dying. In D2, remember when we die, we had to run around naked (without equipment) to try and get our corpses back? That was one of the most epic and funny gaming experiences. I had a group of 8 friends all killed by Diablo, then we all ran naked through the Act 4 cathedral to try and get our stuff back, only to get killed again endlessly by spectres. It might have seem frustrating but it was hella fun and we all had a good laugh.

I haven't died in D3 yet but from what I read you respawn at last checkpoint, no loss of gold/exp, and you automatically get all your equipment back.

I think this is spot on. If you're saying there is no change in spells/abilities, then you probably haven't played past normal mode. Tactics I used in normal mode have not worked well in Nightmare, and I'm sure the same will go for Hell when I get there.

There was no customization in D2, and yes, everything was cookie cutter. If you wanted to be good, you didn't pick what was fun in PvE or PvP. You picked whatever flavor of the month build was winning and owning people. You could pick a bear sorc if you wanted to, but it wasn't the ideal choice. There's always the ideal choice with these games, I don't feel there is much customization at all in any of them.
