335i turbo kit idea

Ive got two ideas on how i want to o do mine assuming 330i headers bolt up. 1st buy sone obx headers and lose the runners, mill yhe flanges flat, then fab two separate log manifolds and run twin gt28's or run the headers into a single collector and run a hta 35r .

You talking about these?

http://www.ebay.com/itm/OBX-HEADER-E...ht_1449wt_1141

If so you will be re-doing the entire header/manifold. Based on the other kits available and their turbo manifolds I highly doubt these OBX headers will help make a kit...

How about you machine the compressor housing and throw in a bigger wheel?
And then do the something about the exhaust side... bigger/clipped.

I'm gona buy a set of cores and get it done and see what happens haha. If a set of turbos is blown will it need a wastegate fix as well?

Why wouldn't you just have a custom exhaust manifold made? This is craziness.

It feels like a bandaid to something where there is no problem. Its like rebuilding a motor but using the same worn out pistons and putting them back in... pointless. No offense.

The stock flanges go into the head, that's how the gaskets seal up. Flush mounted probably will not seal up

The only concern i have is whether or not it will leak flush mounted, probably will, but the other guys manifolds dont have the gasket rings either are they having exhaust leaks?

That's basically the RB or ASR upgrades...

The stock manifold has a tapered collar on it that holds the o ring gaskets in place. As you tighten it down, they are forced on to the larger end of the taper and seal outward against the head. I think I recall seeing this tapered sleeve on the inside of the single manifolds? Not positive on that though.

Hardware isn't the issue. But get it done right.

What are you gonna do about tuning?

The Vishnu/FFtec single turbo kit has sealing rings that go into the head, just like stock.

If there's not an easy way to get the proper flanges and get started working then its a no go for me. Really, dont wanna pull a motor and have it sitfor weeks waiting on flanges.

Buy a set of used up junk stock turbos on here cheap and cut the flanges off. Thats the best starting point IMO

Okay... But really though, clipping the turbine isn't exactly going to do much for ya. Look up jpsimon and EPL. With the time and blood and sweat you might as well go work at your job and make the money to just buy RB turbos... .02 cents.

Well my plan wasn't to clip them, going to upgrade everything if I'm gonna put in the effort anyway. I've seen the EPL and all the Billet results and I know that the exhaust side needs an upgrade to make power, the compressor wheel and larger outlet alone won't cut it.

My cars an auto so I don't care for an upgrade really since I can't take much advantage of it, but I just had the opportunity to get it done for pretty much free since I have a friend who wants to see what he can do with a set of turbos for this car just as a fun weekend project when bored so I thought what the heck why not.
Have my buddy do the machining on the turbos and on a random weekend pop off the stockers and throw these on.

Nothing serious, more of a "what the heck why not" kind of project.
