maintenance on my 335i

Hi,

I am at 40k miles and i was wondering if i should perform any maintenance on my car. I do have the BMW maintenance plan, but they are useless, they only go by the book or codes. I was thinking of doing the following:

1- use Chevron -Techron fuel injector cleaning
2- change spark plugs
3- intake valve cleaning- chemical treatment-done by the dealer (~$350)

anything else i missed?

Thank you

Well said! The intake valve cleaning with chemicals doesn't seem to do the trick like the walnut shell blasting. Just review some of the threads on here. And yes, spark plugs around 45,000 miles.

Easily done yourself, replace the gasket while you are at it. Keep in mind, the "lifetime" tranny fluid is hella expensive ($350). Here's the DIY:

I would also add to the service list:
- Oil change in between dealer changes
- change oil filter housing gasket every 50K
- clean out FMIC with solvent (acetone or gasoline) to remove blow by.
- change coil packs every 50K

wow, that is $$$ for that fluid. Dealer told me that i don't need to change oil until the car tells me, i really don't like that as i already did 10k miles and it says another 9k before oil change.

for fmic cleaning, do you mean just pour acetone or gasoline over the fins?

so oil gasket and coil packs due in 10k then.

Thanks

Don't use gasoline, if its left too long or not cleaned off the FMIC it could destroy the finish on the inside of the IC. You're better off using acetone (which is used in chem labs to clean tools + also evaporates after prolonged exposure) or water. Just pour some in the inside of the FMIC, shake it around to remove any oil that's built up on the inside & use compressed air to dry out in the inside.
