I'm sorry to hear that, I was kinda hoping it would be the solution, as I'm sure you did too....

Are you sure you are actually getting wastegate rattle and nothing else? If the new turbos were not adjusted propery, rattle will still be present.

after reflexion, i think it is possibly the phenomen was due to my exhaust... an particulary catalysor, or pre catalysor , in fact my exhaust has 116 000 km, so next week i will verify this.
because one guy had a similar pb, and it's due to a lillte piece of ceramic, which desolidarisation, and enter on Raisonnance on particular rpm motor ??? |

Sorry to hear your issue was not the vacuum pump. But now that I have read the rest of the thread, I am wondering if you even have waste gate rattle. The rattle I had was at lower rpm and very loud when coming off throttle or when accelerating hard. Got check engine and reduced power lights from time to time too. If I read correctly, you just have rattle at 3500 rpm?
When I had my E30 M3, I had a loose exhaust header stud and it made a rattle sound similar to what you describe. But seeing you have replaced the turbos I would not think this to be the issue. (everything there about should be tight and newly installed.) Maybe you do have something else worn or loose in your exhaust and it rattles at just the right rpm. |

Like I mentioned. If the new turbos were not adjusted and just put in the car, its very very possible the turbos are still making noise. I have seen new BMW turbos rattle because of mis-adjustment from the part supplier.
Also, the primary cats are known to break apart. If a piece of the honeycomb is broken inside of the cat pipe, it will cause a rattle. |

My dealer bmw said normaly that adjustement turbos is done by part supllier bmw?? So they need specific adjustement before to put on a car????????
And you say if one of the primary cat has only a failure, it should be the cause of rattle? It s possible this ????? |

I started experiencing what I believe to be this rattle. It has been intermittnent the past few weeks, becoming more and more frequent and pronounced. Then today, I was hitting limp mode every time I drove remotely agressive. Coincidence or related?
I've only had the car 3 weeks. Just my luck Last edited by Saltytreats; 06-01-2012 at 01:25 AM.. Reason: adding info |
