e90 phone book with 'home', 'work', 'mobile' tags...
I just got my Motorola E815 (Verizon) phone and it works great on my e90 except for one thing. It automagically synchronized all the contacts from my phone to the iDrive address book, however, the 'home', 'work', 'mobile', etc. tags didn't come over. For example, if I have 3 numbers for John Doe (work, home, and mobile), I can know by the icon on the E815 which phone number is for home, work, mobile, etc. However, the address book in my e90 does not have such a designation and John Doe simply shows up three times. When I scroll over the name, the number appears as well, but I don't want to have to start memorizing peoples numbers to know if I'm dialing a home or work number. Anybody have this problem and more importantly fix it??

I use a Sony Ericsson T610.
It transfers multiple numbers for each contact to the car's phonebook & places a suffix at the end (hom, work, mob etc) to show the type of number being displayed. Have you tried deleting the phone in the bluetooth set-up & re-syncing it? Does it make any difference if you have shorter names in your phone? eg Bob with 3 stored numbers- do they show up with the 3 suffixes, because each entry can be shown on one line? Based on this thread, it looks like the car will only display the same name, each number, but not the type of number. Sorry bimmer4me. |

It looks like there isn't a real fix out there. That's annoying. Oh well, I'll just have to see if I can still enjoy by new BMW and new Bluetooth cell phone.

No fix for it. Got to rename all of your entries.
Really stinks.

Not come across that problem, as I've not needed to do that yet.
Will give it a try & let you know, danteef. |

Dude, get the Moto Phone Tool. Change the name in the phone book from the computer and re-sync it. Just like a breeze to me. I got it on ebay for $5 and so far it's worked with most motorola phones I tried.

This isn't a problem specific to our E90s. I don't have Bluetooth built in but use a TomTom Go700 which also acts as a hands-free for my mobile and the phonebook sync does a similar thing!

Bimmer4 - I currently have the Razr. And I had to rename everthing. Getting the Razr is not going to solve the problem. It's just a limitation in the BMW Software.

Can you connect the phone to the pc through bluetooth rather than a cable?

I don't know if it's necessarily a limitation in the BMW software. Amazingly the new Verizon Blackberry 7130e syncs everything with "-Mobile", "-Home", "-Work" automagically. My previous Blackberrys couldn't even sync! What an improvement.
I had the same problem with T610 and RAZR... syncs with no labels. |

However, I waited for another 30 seconds or so, clicked on the menu button to go to the start menu, & tried again. This time the number had been updated & only 1 number was shown for that contact, as was expected. My 330iSE is a week 36 September production, so perhaps it may have newer Bluetooth software than yours, danteef. I only use the phone's memory & NOT the SIM card memory. Perhaps you could transfer any SIM numbers to the phone & see if this makes a difference. The phone's firmware version is R1A081 on Orange in the UK. Hope this helps. I'd probably upgrade to another Sony Ericsson phone in future, as there seems to be problems with the Nokias & phone book transfer to the car. PS- my T610 & e90 do 'automagically' suffix the contacts' numbers- M for mobile, H for home, W for work etc |
