run flats
hi, new member here, i only joined today after spending most of yesterday reading 50 pages on the trials & tribulations of a certain used bmw car lot in kent. anyway, a question that i hope you can help me with.
im considering purchasing a used 320i conv & if i do i will be wanting to swap out standard wheels for something a little nicer but probably not OEM. will the run flats currently on the standard wheels go straight on the after market wheels (obviously size permitting) or will i have to buy new non run flat tyres? & if i have to use non run flats, what precautions do i make in the event of a flat? thanks in advance |

Bought my BMW with run flats (standard 17inch rims), could wait to get them off didn't like them at all, got CSL's after a month and the difference is unreal and there running on hannook tyres
If the rims are same size will fit ok, also there is no real precautions as the on board computer monitors your tyre pressure |

If you buy new rims you WONT want to put the run flats on them!
I'm sure run flats cant go on any old wheel - but I could be wrong? There are loads and loads of threads on run flats and non run flats. Do a search and get a little background on it |

Precautions are to carry tyre goo and maybe an inflator.
Run flats allow you to drive on the tyre at low speed to get you to a dealer. Then the tyre gets binned and you get a £250 bill for a new tyre. Tyre goo in a non RFT allows you to drive to any tyre shop, wash the goo out and possibly fix the puncture. Therefore maybe £15. Non RFTs are much cheaper to buy too. Buy a wheel and tyre package (you generally save the fitting fees at least) and either keep your old set or sell as a package.
