Crank it up fairly loud, then turn off and on again. It resets to level 29 as a safety precaution. Then every click on the volume knob is up or down one level. Generally you don't want to go over 50.

If I turn the volume all the way down before I turn it off it will be all the way down when I start it, same if I leave the volume up I'll have to take a look at it.
