Actually some of them do..
my uncles f350 small body has its wheels almost an inch outside the fenders and off road versions of the wranglers are the same.

Toyota gives you the option of getting the fender moldings that extend your fenders for the tundra. the last time i checked if you buy the off road version the wheels are stuck out unless you pay for this 1k option.

even bmw sells you rims that stick out of your fenders..
like the e70. if you dont buy sport pack you dont get the wider fenders and when you slap on style 215 rims they are about half an inch outside the fenders as well, i have seen this on MANY x5s in the GTA.

i didnt try to piss off the officer, i just wanted clarifications on why im getting the tickets. although it may sound like im trying to piss him off.

either way, i looked into the display visible to driver ticket and found this on the HTA under 366/09:

"Exempt devices
7. The display screens of the following devices may be visible to any driver in a motor vehicle driven on a highway:
1. A device that displays,
i. information on the conditions, use and immediate environment of the vehicle, or
ii. information on road or weather conditions.
2. An ignition interlock device.
3. A car audio control that displays only text or static images.
4. A hand-held device that displays only text or static images and is connected directly into and operates using the audio system controls of the motor vehicle."

so technically this ticket isnt even valid...the deck cant play any videos at all.

The government and police are only interested in extorting money from us. They don't care about safety or the environment! If they did, they would (should) be pulling over ppl with tail lights and brake lights out, ppl who don't signal, ppl who tailgate, ppl who weave in and out of traffic, cars that are 87 and older would not be exempt from e tests... etc.

If they where interested in our safety, they would start from the ground up. There would be new laws and testing for driving instructors to get there licenses, there would be revised testing put in place, with mandatory retesting. Lot's of ppl then wouldn't get or would loose there license. The roads would be a safer place and maybe our insurance premiums could finally go down (i know I'm dreaming on that one)

But this is not the case. Sadly they only want your money. And because young males and modified cars are such easy targets, we are forced to pay (most of the time for no real reason) while there are people out there driving around with bald tires, no brake lights, tailgating others in the rain...... Who's the real dangerous threat??
Nice attitude. The whole world is against YOU. The law dealing with screens is concerned with viewing movies not GPS directions. They do pull people over for all that stuff you just mentioned. Sounds like you have a problem with authority.

I think those vehicles with rubber outside the fender would be illegal. Google the law. Boat manufacturers sell boats with illegal lights all the time...i happens.
I think you should go to court on the last point. You must have pissed him off .

Actually, I don't. My problem is the police seem to be focused on the easy stuff, and they and the government are ignoring the basic's. As a result we all pay the price.

Was pulled over recently for 68 in a 50.. I was compliant and easy going. He immediately dropped it to 10 over no points and $40.

When I asked at what point did he decide to drop the rate he just said its more a matter of back and forth. If I'm nice to him he's nice to me. If I open a mouth right away there is no mercy. Makes sense.

Have been fortunate recently with a couple nice officers out there.

Emergency vehicles are exempted from this legislation. When at work i can talk on my cell phone, punch stuff into the computer and do a whack load of other things that would be illegal in my personal car.

If there was an infraction there was an infraction. This particular cop may have focussed on something you didnt like but so what? The law is the law.

I'm not talking about myself, I have a good record. I'm talking about ppl who weave in and out of traffic, ppl who tailgate, ppl who don't signal, ppl who have brake light bulbs out. These are little things that make a big difference. But they are to obsessed with speed in this country. There is nothing wrong with speed, if it is handled properly. But because we have such poor driving standards over here, we pay the price for the government dropping the ball.

Yeah the law is the law, but no one enforces it properly!

^Agreed. Speed is not everything. A 20 old beater speeding (with no ABS, traction control or electronic brake distribution and likely no working air bags) is far more dangerous than a brand new car going at the same rate of speed.

Similarly, I would never drive a Camry the way I drive my 335i. Different cars with different limitations.

If anything, the government should provide greater incentives to get older potentially dangerous cars off our roads.

Traffic police = cash grab. Did you not hear about the Toronto Police internal memo requiring officers to go through at least one book of tickets per day? Why you think the police can't solve half the shootings and stabbings in this city, or find a stolen car, or catch burglars, muggers, thieves etc. The government doesn't care about that shit. Catching criminals costs money, writing tickets make money.

At one of those check stops, I got stopped after being cleared by one officer (because I haven't been drinking). The second officer stopped me because he was asking how come I had four headlights on and checked my dash to see if I had the fogs on.

...he was referring to the "second set" aka angel eyes. Yup. It's like he's never seen a BMW before when there's a BMW dealership about 10 mins drive away. And yeah, there was a memo which was leaked but quickly denounced that it existed that they're supposed to give out a book of tickets a day.

No disrespecting my brothers in blue but unfortunately they're not the ones that make up the rules. It goes with all organizations. Sometimes management is so high up that they can't see what's going down below (I'm fairly certain that officers don't even like having to write tickets - they're just forced to do it because management says so).

Speed DIFFERENTIAL is the big problem. I can't understand why they don't have more "traps" to catch cell phone users...like on ramps. People on th ephone are the easiest and among the most dangerous on the road imo.
I guess they need more cops out there to catch the traffic weavers and tailgaters. Trouble is when a cop shows up everyone behaves. I'd love to see cop sitting on a porch with a walkie talkie telling his partner (around the corner) about cell phone/no stop/illegal turn etc.

For sure. It's about road "etiquette" than anything else. I was in Columbus, Ohio a week ago. The biggest difference I noticed on their highways was that if you're in the far left lane, people move out of your way well in advance; No tailgating, no passing using the right lanes.

As you said, a large majority of accidents occur from people not paying attention, from txting / talking on cellphones, eating, grooming etc..
