Bro, if you really want the car expand your search area outside of just chicago...Maybe you have to drive a couple hours to get one...Not a big deal especially if its CPO.
Go on autotrader and do a broad search....There are tons

You need to negotiate the price down. It's not a bad idea to pay special attention to BMWs sitting in non-BMW branded lots (I got mine at a Honda dealership and got a killer trade-in on my S2k); they're wanting to get rid of them because they can't service them at all.

Personally, I would never own or buy, another BMW outside of it's factory warranty.....yet alone another 335. Even being a DIY'er, parts are very expensive and don't kid yourself, things will go bad/break. Just my $0.02 from a guy who spent close to $10K out of pocket in just repairs. Not trying to disuade you from your big purchase, just warning that a BMW is no Ford when it comes to repairs.

Welcome, the first thing I want to say is continue to search but I'm far to new of a poster to pull that.
But really, the 335i is a absolutely wonderful car. I researched for about 9 months and looked day and night for the exact one I wanted. I spotted it the first day it came out on bmwusa's site and drove down 48 hours later to purchase it 100ish miles away. As for your concerns, i think most have covered it but I'll throw in my 02. 1. Get a CPO, the 335 is a terrific car, the problems can seem as if they are more common due to the fact that enthusiasts come here to get information about their cars. There are thousands of owner's who don't post that haven't had any issues. Then again they are prob not modded. The CPO covers you just in case, and don't be afraid to haggle. Trust me dealers want to move older vehicles. 2. I'd get an 08' or newer, make sure it has an oil cooler. 3. Pull the service records and see if the HPFP has been replaced, look at all the work thats been done. 4. I believe the I-drive was updated in 09' and is a little more user friendly. I love mine and the ability to plug in my iphone and shuffle through songs. 5. Search, search, and search, for the color, package you want and if your patient you'll find it. As i stated it took me about 9 months of researched and looking and I was able to get EVERYTHING I wanted, color, wheels, I-drive, coupe, packages. I managed to get an 09' with a factory warrenty till 5/13 and a cpo till 5/15, car had 36k on it. The deals are out there, just have to be patient. Don't be scared off by all you read, if the 335 was that bad, it wouldn't get such great reviews and been bought by thousands upon thousand of consumers. Also, the N54 wouldn't have won an award. Just make sure you purchase smart and within your budget. Try and time when you'll have it paid off to when the warrenty expires if your that concerned. |

I think you should be more concerned with getting your DCI's installed correctly then what the fuck I have to say
OP, CPO is useless especially if you're going to mod beyond an intake & tune. Some dealers are real sticklers for how you mod a car, especially if you make serious changes like DPs or an FMIC weeks after you bought a CPO'd vehicle. Look at cars, get their Service History from BMW (any dealer can do this over the phone, just have the last 7 of the VIN) and have a legit, trustworthy dealer to a Pre-Purchase Inspection |
