The 29 Diner near Fairfax City is very good. Their Waffles are the best I've ever had:

VERY hilly. I will die there. I'm way out of shape. I'll probably just do the
12 mile route twice and that's it.

heres what I've learn from bike shops. my first bike was a hybrid from a local neighborhood bike shop they were excellent in supporting me and the bike. Its like having a 24hrs free minor repair facility.

In about a year, I've out growned it. I found a road bike on sale from a DC/Rosslyn store. I was upset that I didnt support the neighborhood bike shop that was always good to me.

But it turn out to be a blessing since most of my rides pass by the stores and their branches. Whenever I bring the bike for derailer or brake adjustments, it had priority becoz they see their sticker on the bike. I even conveniently broke the chain at a Rosslyn hill, and was lucky I just free glided twds G-town to get it fix.

Moral of my story, after sale service/support is important, otherwise you'll be waiting for service forever or will nickle and dime you for every little thing if the bike wasnt bought there.

Oh, I didn't make myself clear. I normally take the access road from Dulles to 495, and not pay any tolls in doing so. That is still my plan, however, it seems there are some places in Reston that may be worth it. Otherwise, I'll stop off in Tysons, or in MD, on the way back up I-95.

Thanks

I've heard this place is a good choice. Here's my stupid question of the day: I have never driven on any road from Dulles other than the Access Road. So, if I want to exit at Centreville, do I have to leave the access road close to Dulles and stay on the toll road (267)? I don't remember there being lots of exit opportunities from the access road.
Thanks for your help!

Thanks for your help!
The exits off 267 are non-toll until you get to Tyson's. Frequently the access road will put you on 267 for a few miles to exit at your desired location. It's once you get around Tyson's that the 267 exit ramps have tolls but the access road has a dedicated flyover ramp onto Rt 7.

You can take the access road out of the airport complex past the 28N/S exit (lots of construction going on) and then take the first exit to Herndon - Elden St/Centerville Rd (no-toll). You have to cut across 5 lanes to hit the exit & it's a short distance from the access road exit to the Elden St exit so use caution. Turn left at the bottom of the ramp (go under the access/267 bridges) at the light and into Herndon proper. Amphora is past the Giant and in between a few gas stations on the right. If you reach the 7-11 you can make a right at the light and then another right to get to the diner (it's set back from the road behind a gas station or two).

If you can't get to the Elden St exit take the next exit at Fairfax County Pkwy (watch for the cops set up on the crest of the hill in the bushes & under the bridge at the exit next to the parking garage complex). Left at the light, over the bridge, Left/ramp onto Spring St at next light, Left on Herndon Parkway (next light), Stay on Herndon Pkwy until Elden St, Right and a gas station or two away on the right.

You will have to pay to get back on the Toll Rd and then to exit at Toll Plaza or you can try doubling back to the airport & getting on the access road as you have a legitimate excuse

Full service lanes, cash bins, and at toll plaza dedicated ez-pass lanes! Ez-pass is accepted at all lanes though only the main toll plaza & 28 N have dedicated lanes.

It's really the only way to do it though I'm always surprised by the number of people in the cash or full service lanes.

I thought so. I asked because aren't the tolls when exiting the access road 75 cents? I wasn't sure if you could charge that small amount to easypass.

Yeah 75 at toll plaza & 50 i think to get on. I really don't pay much attention since using ez-pass for so long. But back in the day when it was 25, 35, & 50 cents you still could use smart-tag/ez-pass.

Ettil, you've been a tremendous help. After all that we wound up in Rockville at Bagel City. I must say, the best bagels I have had around here.
