What shape airbag do I have?

I have an E92 2008 SE 335d and thinking of swapping it for a M sport steering wheel. But as I have found out there are 2 types - round or triangle shaped airbag.

Which is the correct one on my car? I dont fancy the idea of messing about with the airbag

Triangle one is for SE and round one is for M sports.
If you are going for M sports steering, get the steering wheel and airbag together.

E92 335 should have the round airbag on a sports steering wheel.

What does the centre of your steering wheel look like? It should be round.
On the e92 the sports steering wheel was standard I think. You can upgrade to the Msport steering wheel and use your existing airbag.

Two versions of airbag on se.
Standard is triangular.
Sports one is with circular like M sports one.
And M sports come with circular airbag.
Hope that helps.

If you have a 335d E92 it will have the correct airbag to suit the M sport wheel because your car has the SE Sport wheel as standard. It will have the chrome lines like the first of Sub Zeros pictures. This bag simply swaps into your new M sport wheel and job done.

On my current steering wheel I have the chrome strips at either side and it looks like the 1st pictures that Subzero has posted up. So that means it will be the round type airbag?

So take for example this steering wheel, this will accept a round airbag?

Also how easy/hard is it to change the steering wheel over? I know that when working with airbag you have to be very carefull or is this a garage only job?

very simple.

turn battery off.

slot in screw driver to the two slits on side of wheel and push the clip in which releases airbag.
unclip airbag.
take off bolt and remove wheel.

do opposite for installing.

P.S i have a complete m sport paddle shift wheel in mint condition if u interested?!!

cheers

As above the job is easy. There is a fully detailed DIY on here. So long as you disconnect the battery you won't have any issues with air bag. Finding the clips that hold it in can. E a little tricky but if you follow the guide it helps a lot.

NP.

As i said, just done the swap myself and finding a decent quality M-Sport steering wheel with auto paddle shift and for a good price is bloody hard work!!!

But so worth it, the M-Sport wheel with the perforated leather is awesome.

Yeh its fantastic. Really glad I swapped. Didn't buy it new as it is about £500 new. Bought a very good condition used one. It feels much better in hand to drive with. Would I pay the £300-£450 most people want on ebay for one? No. Not a chance. I paid £220 inc del for mine, sold my old one for about £90 so it cost £130 to upgrade which is totally worth it.

What I did was set up a "saved search" on ebay which emailed me the second anything matching that search came up. A few weeks went past and finally one came up for a good price and I swooped in quickly. Just took a bit of patience and good knowledge of how to get the best out of eBay!
