Quick jb4 update question

Hi guys. Just a quick one.

I am removing my jb4 as she is going in for a full service, brake fluid etc...

I am also going to have a look at some other annoying issues like warning lights coming on.. For ex. Bonnet open, license plate light out, warning lights....

I may attempt to ask for a software update too...

BUT MY JB4 question is...

I have not found time to update it yet, but as I have it out of the car... Could I update it on the laptop or does it need to be installed...

I know this is a noob question, but may as well ask before I remove it.

Thank you.

It needs to have power, so needs to be in the car.

Plus 1 here. It has to physically be connected to the ECU to draw power.

I would go through the steps of disconnecting it and just before it's removed update it.

+1. Needs to be connected to the car. Update it when you get that car back, that way you will already be in the ECU.

Ya needs to be connected to power in the car, unless you can feed it power on the bench (not something I recommend doing)
