Wierd "vacuum" sound after BOV DIY
Hey guys,
I did the DIY "BOV" by unplugging the DV hose just to see what it would sound like. I only did the front one, and drove around a bit to hear it, then came home to plug it all back up. Now the issues begin. First, I noticed ALOT of oil had been spit out of the DV hose, probably just normal blow-by. The real issue is I now hear this wierd sound when I let off the throttle after boosting: it isn't a blow off sound, more like a sucking sound that is hard to describe. I honestly think it might be compressor surge Then, I go to read codes, and I find 2 codes popped up: 2ABC and 3100. At this point I am extremely pissed off. My mods are JB4 and DCI, never been off map 1. I cleared the codes and drove hard for a little, they didn't come back, but the sound is still there. Here is a low quality phone video of the sound, that you can hear towards the end when letting off throttle. Please help! http://s1241.photobucket.com/albums/...=VIDEO0007.mp4 |

I forgot to note the codes popped up after I switched into JB4 map 8, thinking with the turbos "off" I couldn't hear it. The noise didn't occur in this map. Also, the car seems to be holding boost fine, I think..

I'm gonna pretend to be surprised that something went wrong with your "budget" DIY BOV

That it was pretty stupid to unplug the OEM DVs..... Should've just bought a used CP + BOV if you wanted to change it that badly

What tune are you running? Do a datalog and pay close attention to your WGDC. If you have a boost leak the WGDCs willl be very "spikey" and constantly trending upward

To be honest, I can't really hear anything. It's supposed to make a "whoosh" sound. As long as the DV is secure in the CP and the intake is capped and nothing else is disturbed then you should be good. Make sure canclear on the JB4 is off so that if there is a boost leak then it will show up as a 30FF code.

Verdict of the story:
Codes were thrown due to switching into map 8, which is known to throw these codes on a JB4. All lines were tight etc, noise is still there but it's normal. /thread |
